There is currently a massive flaw in the system, and that is gaining knowledge points for some professions is extremely unrewarding or simply impossible. The biggest offender is Blacksmithing.
Besides the one time books, treasures and first crafts, your only source of knowledge point are the weeklies and patron orders. For some reason Blacksmithing (and Engineering) only get 5 knowledge points from weeklies.
- 1 from a Treatise
- 2x 1 from dirt piles
- 2 from the weekly crafting order quest
I’ve currently gathered 145 knowledge points, and have decided to take the weapons and profession tools route. I have 50 points into profession items and 95 in weapons.
There are 5 patron crafts available, all are first crafts, 2 give KP. The first one is a rank 4 Charged Runeaxe, which I can’t craft yet. It would reward me 2 KP. It would cost me 42k (!) in mats to just craft it. The plans would cost me 18k. 60k for 3 KP.
What else is on offer; rank 4 Everforged Longsword. Good, I can craft this one. Mats cost; 41k, and the rewards is a first craft and 1 knowledge point from a Flicker of Blacksmithing Knowledge.
All the patron order have this issue, as they all require Sancitfied Alloy and Profaned Tinderbox. What really sucks is that the patron orders don’t refresh as often if you don’t fully clear them all. Which means I have to wait 5 days for 2 of them to run out.
The 5 available, of which I can only craft two, would cost me 230k (!) of gold, which is just bonkers. They would net me 8 KP total.
You need 865 knowledge points to fill out all trees.
Either make the patron order that give knowledge points as rewards the cheaper easy ones, or just let the patron’s provide more mats. Or better, up the droprate of some of the items, especially the Profaned Tinderbox.
I prefer to spend my concentration on patron order than having to spend a small fortune on a miserable amount of knowledge points.
