So this used to happen with both Retail and Classic WoW. I fixed retail by going to the processor power management and decreasing the performance by 20%. Now Retail WoW runs nicely, at almost full graphics. For Classic though, that is not the case! It still keeps black screen crashing on exit, alt&tab, and window button. I tried putting it on Windowed. but it didnt help because after I closed it it would crash with a BSOD in a matter of seconds. I switched back to fullscreen now and I cannot stand the black screen crashes on exit, any advise please?
Here’s my PC’s specs
- AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (CPU)
- 8 GB DDR4 2400 MHz (RAM)
- AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 (GPU)
- Windows 10 Home
- 220GB SSD
- 1TB HDD
So I have heard about updating drivers, though idk how to do that. Please tell me how (if it is needed) and also tell me all the other things I can do to fix it.
Hey,
If you are encountering Blue Screens of Death, thats usually indication that something critical happened that caused windows to crash.
You would need to know the details of the BSOD, to know what potentially is causing these crashes.
Do you have any details of the Crash, if you are running the most recent version of Windows 10, you should get a QR code that will take you to Microsoft website.
As mentioned above the error code/label is needed. Aside of that the problem can be related to:
- Unstable RAM overclock (XMP is an overclock). Although 2400 should be super fine unless you altered the timing or something.
- Inadequate power supply - if you had to change the setting maybe the PSU can’t handle a full load?
- Weird overheating - should force a shutdown, not a bsod though.
Hey there, I will check it out, though note that BSOD happens only with Windowed mode, when I have the game on full screen I get a black screen crash that says: “no signal”.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the game yesterday morning. Of course it is reset to fullscreen. I can no longer put it on Windowed due to black screen crashes so I am no longer dealing with a BSOD. The black screen crash is now my main problem (still crashes on exit) and so I’d appreciate it if you gave me details on how to fix that crash. I do not know why Classic was not fixed like retail (with the thing I mention on the original post) but it is really annoying, inconvinient and probably harmful for the PC. Please do respond and give some advise.
BSOD, a kernel panic.
This occurs usually in cases where there are certain critical mistimings/errors at the hardware level.
You’ve either Overclocked your machine, it’s unstable because of that. Or it’s overheating. Or there are defective parts. Or, you’ve got a critical driver failure.
My best guess. Bad CPU voltage/LLC or the GPU driver.
Coming from load to idle is an uncommong but relatively known problem in the world of OCing. However, I don’t remember the specifics on what the details were that caused it. Basically, increase CPU voltage/LLC setting. If temperature gets too high, either improve the cooling or reduce the frequency.
As I mentioned above, BSOD no longer bother me, for now. But if your answers apply for the other crash types, let me know. Especially what you said about the voltage. Could using a power strip that is perhaps somehow damaged over the years be the reason behind the crashes? Note though that only WoW classic crashes, of all the games in my PC. Retail, HotS, Fortnite, GTA Online, all run perfectly, without issues (retail sometimes may crash on character selection/logging in, for some reason).
