The best way to get caught up in the plot currently is to join either Cleft of Shadow or Grim Gest, as those are the two guild most directly engaged right now. Whichever would be more fitting depends on what direction you want to take your character.
Grim Gest is a hostile/neutral guild focused mostly around undead and void-themed RP, while Cleft of Shadow is hostile/neutral but specifically a fel-cult.
