People can message me, but when I try to reply it say’s “no one named blablabla-server is currently online” or whatever. Even though they keep whispering me?
I’ve encountered that a few times. Think it’s always been with someone from another server. No idea what causes it or if anything can be done about it.
They’re on invisible and can’t respond until they’re off of it, perhaps? It works like that in some other games.
I know of 3 cases this can happen:
- The player you respond to is (at the time you send the message) in a portal
- An addon (like VIM) is interfering when you try to reply to someone with a non-standard-Latin character in their full name (I don’t know if this has been fixed, I haven’t used it in ages)
- The player you respond to has you on their ignore list
Try doing a reload ( /rl ) in case some other addon also interferes. Sometimes Altoholic, for example, doesn’t recognize users on my friend or guild list and tells me that the player in question “may be someone I don’t know” when I try to send a mail to them.
That’s the likely case. They’ll insult someone then block them so a response never comes. Happened to me twice or so over the years
I’ve had it happen with a friend that plays horde. I could whisper his character by name just fine during the key but after he left I had to whisper him on battletag because it just returned an error message when I tried to message him by character name even though he could whisper to me. Idk what causes that.
There’s also been cases where my friend tries to whisper someone in LFG with a key, someone that’s never interacted with either of us and they can’t because they’re on the opposite faction.
