Playing through classic and now started re doing some of the classic cata questlines im reminded how many actually were a huge upgrade over vanilla.
Id say westfall is on per with vanilla , aswell as redridge. I think silverpine and hillsbrad are upgrades over their vanilla counterparts.
What zones do you think got better / worse because of cata revamp?
I pref westfall from vanilla being honest but you are so right with hillsbrad being an upgrade .
Desolace is an upgrade aswell in Cata and Tanaris but all other zones are vanilla better in my view especially the dungeons and there quests .
I think i have a soft spot for westfall because i liked how they continued the defias story and brought vanessa vancleef in.
Also totally forgot about desolace, huge upgrade over vanilla where it was a barren waste with very tedious quests.
I think pretty much all of them are worse than their vanilla counterparts, from my own experience. Redridge is just meme rip off from Rambo entirely. Westfall is just meme CSI rip off, etc. Most cata revamps heavily seem to follow that to where it’s completely meme/pop culture remake which hardly feels like Warcraft in the first place.
i did westfall yesterday and the csi meme is only like the 1st 2 quests. most of the questline doesnt even have those characters involved…
i agree on redridge just being rambo, i thought it was pretty funny though tbh.
Also vanilla also had meme questlines, the lost dwarves in uldaman, the link quest in ungoro.
I feel like 50% of wow’s quests have always been a ripoff of something else.
I don’t see a reference to their old game as ‘meme’ questlines. Those are fully fledged out questlines with lore set in the universe though the characters themselves were callbacks to that. It’d take those quests over the Bad lands meme tacular quests that happened with the revamp. The link quest in ungoro sure, very silly but still fit the universe more than ‘lel rambo on a tank guise’
Classic references at least were not too on the nose, and usually not super jokey/just memeing on the reference being made. Cataclysm that was all in over drive. Even see the zone like Uldum and how that turned out with Indiana Jones vs well you know who.
Cata questing is great, at least compared to TBC and WotLK. I wasn’t a fan of the bit of classic leveling I tried.
