Performance: WoW vs FF14

Even the models which are quiet high poly right now with those fancy textures get mixed with old stuff from Vanilla / BC / Wrath…

GIVE ME MY LOW POLY WORLD PLEASE NOT 1939488363 POLY STUFF.

tbh I’ve noticed absolutely no performance issues like we saw in the 8.3 corrupted zones in BFA when it was basically world of proccraft
I don’t feel like the game is bursting at the seams like it was during the corruption patch
The high performance price that somewhat decent graphic settings have is abysmal tho

all in all I wouldn’t have my choice on WoW or FF14 be based on graphics, the games are so different you’re better off going for what playcycle is more enjoyable for you

wow perfomance is terrible even on super high end configs, it started from legion
the game req like 11900k/5900x overclocked just to have stable 60+ fps in 30 people raids or epic battlegrounds
i don’t think any other so badly optimized game exists currently

I disagree, the more we talk about the good and the bad in both games on these forums, the more incentive we give to the developers to start noticing the issues in their game, and what solutions they could possibly seek from other games like FF14. It’s time to stop treating WoW like an echochamber and look to other games for inspiration and improvements.

I for one think making WoW into a loading screen filled graphics downgrade like FF would create a huge uproar after all the upgrades we’ve got up untill now. Many of us needed new computers just to play Shadowlands alone.

But how to improve WoW fps, technicall and system preformance without making it look like bricks compared to what we’ve got now? If anyones got feedback there, I wouldn’t be against it. (Not that im against just general comparing it either… Just, keep it coming!)

From my experience WoW is much better optimized. It seems like Blizz develops the game for modern pc’s. While FF14 stopped in 2010.

Also WoW uses dx12, while FF14 don’t.

And FF14 has huge problems with their spaghetti code. While in WoW they made very good move years ago when they rewrote whole code so it’s much easier to improve wole game for Blizz.

It’s like that because FF minimum and recomended requirements are between 2x and 4x lower than WoW. This probably is achieved by a less open world and invisible walls, smaller maps and loading screens.

i’ve had to FPS issues what so ever …:man_shrugging:

In lower, small or laptops, WoW runs better in low-mid graphics. FFXIV is not very flexible with his graphics. But in mid-higher PCs ( GPUs like1060, 2060) FFXIV just runs perfect. Even in a PS4 it runs smooth (can drop sometimes in cities with max profile). So in PS5 it should go exactly like a PC.

I think games should take good ideas from each other, i really don’t get this mentality from some people of: This is wow not eso or whatever.

It’s really just short sighted and dumb. If something works and it’s good, why not try to implement it yourself in some way? For example a m+ like system in eso would do wonders.

Due to my computer being “blown” up I am forced to play on my crappy laptop. It runs retail wow on 12-15 fps at most on all lowest settings. Compared to classic TBC where it runs 18-38 fps with the same settings. I think that tells you enough… the game does not really follow that anymore unless they only do it for computers/cards from 5 years ago or so.

To be completely honest, i would have liked if WoW took a break much like FF14 took a break in graphics upgrades in 2015-2016. Like I previously said, the time they spend to implement unnecesserily complicated graphics could be spent on actually working on the games complexity and code. Also, DX12 is not as much an improvement as people like to say it is.
As for spaghetti code, well, sorry to disappoint, Blizzard needs to do the same move they did years ago and rewrite it again, because it’s now just as much, if not more mixed and twisted as the FF14 one.

I think people are just tired of people creating threads that basically only trash wow and pretend ffxiv is some utopian mmorpg without issues that does everything right.

It’s just strange to see people hate on timegating in wow and then praise ffxiv as if it’s not rife with timegating as well.

People hate on gear scarcity in wow and then praise ffxiv as if it doesn’t take weeks to get a single item in ffxiv.

FFXIV does a lot right but it’s far from perfect. It’s just a bit hypocritical tbh, or it just shows people praising it like that haven’t actually played it and are just jumping on the bandwagon. :man_shrugging:

Just like shadowlands :slightly_smiling_face:

Final fantasy is still young and a fresh experience to WoW refugees. But they need it. (Young as in most of its attention picked up after BFA for WoW players)
All serious FF players I have talked to admits its best feature about it is the story content and world content. Witch Shadowlands sucks at, At the moment…

A whole wopping 5 of them for each shadowlands zones… Where as in FF every corner you turn there is a new one. But some player cares about it. Some don’t mind it at all

Enjoy! I recommend it! not saying that to be spiteful or toxic or anything. But I my self always tried every new mmo that came out. Either you will love it or hate it, Each to their own as always.

I don’t think WoW is bursting at the seams, but I do believe it has some noticable leaks though. 8.3 I believe tested the games mettle in more ways then one in code fidelity, graphical fidelity and gameplay fidelity, and there are many noticable issues the community pointed out during 8.2.5 - 8.3. that have been neglected. Even more so, the dev team still decided to up the anty and go for another graphical upgrade, all the while leaving the old zones the same old mess it used to be. There is basically no fidelity at all, and majority of the performance issues stem from that, I believe. If Blizzard could just contain themselves and not chase graphics in a 17 YO game and rather focus on what actually made the game good for once, it would do the game wonders.
As for the choice between WoW or FF14, TBH I wasn’t exactly talking about choosing based on graphics. I’m talking about comparing the overall stability and smoothness of gameplay of the two. To me, FF14 runs a lot smoother with objectively more complicated graphics, yet WoW has a simpler artstyle that somehow chugs the games performance. Whether it is the code or just lack of optimization - I don’t know, but it is what it is.

Why would you compare 2 games with completely different graphics? Would make more sense to compare Vanilla and retail…ff14 still has the same char models and hairstyles from when it released…
