Pet Battles, Pokemon and palword Lawsuit

just picking at straws and a huge coincidence then ,
the patent went live recently

btw … its more work to remove it than keep it as it is.
considering we are at silvermoon city. ( where you can currently battle pets )

then do explain why pet battle is still in mop classic if according to you blizzard took it out of retail because of nintendo patent .like i said you didnot even bother to read the patent or its info .you just went did a simple google search and didnot bother digging in .

good work investigator…zero points for u

Are you referring to this post ?

So what you are saying is that the company they are suing , pawlord or whatever , should just change their combat a bit to be a click /talk to start a battle and than the patent cannot be applied .
And since it cannot be applied retroactively they cannot be sued for what they did before the patent .

Well that is one useless patent than .

Which they already have been doing.
Palword has been making changes to their game, and have been altering mechanics in their game based on the ongoing lawsuit.

As for what will come out of it, time will tell.

you do realise they cant enforce anything that happened prior to 2025
Mop happened years ago. even classic mop would not be effected.

the patent CAN be enforced with NEW pet battles 2025 + onwards

hence why midnight has no pet battles

signed - sherlock :face_with_monocle:

I still feel that lawsuit or even the patent itself as whole is :poop:.

In that case, anyone can come up and claim a patent that they where the “first ones to invent elves” so any fantasy game with elves is suddenly sue able?

Additionaly:

“Win 15 Pet Battles” will keep returning in upcoming Trading Post Activities.
If this patent would have been a reason, this would have to be removed.

Maybe if we were able to speed up pet battle animations more pople would play.

Some of them are really long and causes big delays between turns.

No, Nintendo will use already existing patents, specially the Japanesse ones who are even more restrictively that this new US patent. This new patent was just made in spite againts that company and probably to stop them or any other company to do something similar. So, this patent won’t affect Palworld but it could affect that game if they release an expansion or something similar, because that’s content released after the patent.

By the way.Fun fact. None of those patents are legal in EU. In the EU sofware patents are illegal.

No. The patent wound’t affect that just for the same reason this patent won’t affect Palworld. Patents are not retroactive. I am not so sure if Pet Battles are removed due to the patent or a coincidence. It is obviously that Pet Battles are a small version of Pokemon. So much that as a long Pokemon fan I have never enjoyed Pet Battles for this reason. Every time I spend a few days playing it I end picking an old Pokemon game.

But the patent would only affect new Pet Battles included in Midnight. It just happens that in Midnight there won’t be new Battles. And no new Pet Battle quests. And there is one las thing: Midnight Pets won’t be usable in old Pet Battles.

Ok, let’s think. They don’t want to develop this underuse system… but why make pets and don’t give them abilities to be used in existing content? Especially when most of the times those abilities are reused from previous pets, they are not always unique nor original. That make me believe they have considered Nintendo’s patent

Another question I am asking to those who doubt there is a link with the patent.

So : Midnight is almost out and development is complete. So the development of pet battles is also complete (they wouldn’t wait for the alpha to start developing it - which means basically adding the abilities of the Midnight pets).

If they had decided two years ago to remove Pet Battles altogether we would have known.

If they took the trouble to develop it, why would they suddenly drop it just after the patent ?

And of course they can’t say “we cancelled Per Battles because of the patent” because that would be a recognition that they are in breach. Hence blaming it on the player base, always a convenient scapegoat :joy:

Ehm… have another read.

Pet Battles ain’t getting removed… it’s just not carrying forth into Midnight onwards due to low participation numbers of it. We can still do everything prior…

Microsoft is a far bigger company than Nintendo.

Nintendo only goes after small fry who can’t afford the lawsuit. They wouldn’t do jack going againgst a behemoth.

I think you’re right. Blizzard has not removed archeology despite abandoning the feature completely. There is no point removing minigames that don’t affect other parts of the game, unless there’s a monetary incentive like a lawsuit.

I understand that they are removing the pet battle feature completely - you will not be able to engage in any pet battle even with old pets.

So it’s not just that Midnight pets will not have abilities.

After watching some other posts in reddit and US forums I don’t believe the patent has anything to do. It is just a coincidency.

Nintendo won’t ever use this to sue Blizzard. Mostly because the patent has been made out of spite for Palworld and to stop future companies to do something similar. Not againts minigames like Pet Battles.

But another good reason is that Pet Battles were created before the patent was granted. It is not just that the patent doesn’t apply retroactively. The patent doesn’t apply if the invention has been used by other companies previously. Blizzard could easeliy prove in court that any Midnight Pet Battle is similar than Pre-Midnight Pet Battles. If Nintendo argues that their patent apply to developments made by others before the patent…they will proving their patent is invalid. They won’t just loose the case. They will loose the patent.

No. Everything pet-battle-related in the game right now will keep on existing in Midnight as well. We just won’t get new battle pets, only companion pets. And there will not be new trainers to fight.
