For pets becoming an issue in games would have to be a lot more similarities to the pokemon franchise than simply game having pets in it. Like if the gameplay would be throwing around red and white balls on the field and shouting “I select you dragonmon! Fight for my honor oh dragonmon! 
” then it would be basis for copyright suement but not for merely game containing some sort of pets and people collecting them and playing pet battles with them.

Negative. Pet Battles will not be removed entirely so you can safely assume “Win 15 Pet Battles” will continue to be part of Trading Post Travelers Log

I can guarantee the long term goal for housing is to offer exclusive items in the cash shop and probably with some tender

I can imagine a class action lawsuit going after Nintendo soon, or to update patenting laws for gaming to not last long due to the short lifespan of games typically.
It was the same with pets, tho…
PETA are lying scumbag puppy-killers, but they’re not stupid enough to rabble-rouse over digital pets.
There’s three Family Battler quests for older expansion areas which will reward new pets, though.
