A though has passes my mind since i started playing frost mage and gone from tanking to ranged dps. Hunters have a passive that buffs there dmg when they dont have there pet out. ( might be only marksmen) but still. why dont all petclasses have the option to chose between pet and there utility and a dmg buff without it. since forstmage need to “waste” a talent choice if you wanna rp a ice mage without a pet.
this would be for all pet classes locks, hunters and mages forgive me if im missing anypet class here.
any though would this be good or bad for the game.
from my view i would love it.
you cant generalise with a spec and compare with a class.
hunter and warlocs are pet classes unlike frost mage wich if he does not take pet he takes another power increase, you can choose to have the pet or pick another talent.
MM hunters dont really need that, beast masters would hate not having a pet out, unholy that forgets to resummon pet after a wipe messes opening alot (yea… im guilty sometimes)
destro locks have the talent to sacrifice a pet to get a buff and play without a pet.
frost mage is not a pet spec and thus is much more free to play petless unlike BM or unholy DK which are hard coded to use pets for spells/buffs.
having said the above, i would not mind unholy to have a talent in the lines of: replaces dark transformation, instead sacrifces your ghoul to increase ur haste/dmg for 15sec (for example)
you can resummon ur pet every 30sec as unholy
offtopic: they could easily make unholy play in 3 diferent ways, pet like now, dots or strikes, just with talent tree
That is only Marksman and is meant as an option to to play one of the Hunter builds without a pet. I am not sure how much difference this does to the final dps though. Beastmaster wouldnt make any sense to be played without a pet though.
i thought hunters needed lone wolf to get the buff, locks have to use sacrifice. Both have to “waste” a talent point to do it. All those classes get a buff without a pet.
Personally, i just choose the no-pet option on those classes because a pet is just annoying and it gets in the way when youre talking to folk or picking stuff up and can lead to being caught in combat constantly cos theyve aggroed some small critter.
I get your point that you have to waste a talent point to get the option though, versus it being encoded/assumed you have a pet out unless you choose the talent.
To be honest, id imagine itd be just a bit too much to code and some scumbag somewhere would use it to cheat.
