Pet Delights, positivity thread #2

Big delight: For Honor (yes I still sorta casually play that) announced a round of reworks that look great, not long after the last round of them, and removes an incredibly annoying exploit that has been so common in high level play for so long some have basically accepted it as intended.

It will be so much fun to play the PTR tomorrow.

A PS5 version of Ghost of Tsushima with an added expansion has been officially announced and it’s coming out already in August. I couldn’t be more excited, it’s one of my favourite console games.

Good. Now release it on PC alongside Bloodborne.

Among all the problems of the 9.1, bad story and bugs, I am Done with the lost razorwing eggs farm!

Look at that darling, she makes cute screechy noises when she moves.

I got insanely lucky on the two last days with getting two eggs in less than half an hour of farm. The average seems to be around 2h to get the second one.

I’ve been raking Mass Effect 3 over the coals lately, so here’s something positive for a change: I love the geth dreadnought mission.

There’s no gravity, just your magnetic boots attaching you to the hull of the ship. The only sound you hear is that of your footsteps. Everything outside, including the massive space battle around the ship, is completely silent. When you walk around, the whole map rolls over and your subjective up and down shifts, as it should.

So much of ME3’s main plot feels like a corny action movie, and then this mission feels like proper science fiction. Really, the genophage and quarian/geth arcs in that game are so far above everything else, it’s not even funny.

Boralus. Everytime I go visit that place, I always find a new fun little place you’d call great RP locale. One of the best capitals around, period.

I’ve finished my Mass Effect Legendary Edition playthrough.

Well, almost. Like I planned, just before doing the final ME3 mission, I transferred my save from Legendary Edition to regular ME3 with JAM and CEM installed. This made all the difference to what would have otherwise been a playthrough soured by the Starchild and his RGB ending-o-tron.

I still hate the jarring tonal shift between ME1 and ME2. I still hate the dumb writing of ME2 and ME3’s main plots. I still think the final mission is a boring, repetitive slog that doesn’t even make you feel like you’ve earned your victory, instead feeling like you won due to a combination of contrivances, lucky coincidences, and plot armor. But there’s a lot of good in all three games, and this binge playthrough has taught me to appreciate it even better. And ME1 in particular, my favorite of the three, has greatly benefited from the Legendary Edition improvements.

I still have CEM’s modified Citadel left to play through, but I’ve seen the intro to it and I’m already sold. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXf-z7nDAe8

Nine years after I was first scarred by the original ending, with JAM, CEM, and CEM Goodbye, I am finally at peace, and my playthrough of the trilogy ends just how I feel it should end. Thank you, modders.

Pugged my way through 10/10N first week, somehow. I swear to god it cost me bits of my sanity, but i live

I have to know, which colour did you pick?

Since I played with the JAM B mod, I didn’t pick a color and didn’t even see the Starchild. The Reapers (and only the Reapers) were destroyed, end of story.

Well, not exactly end of story. Since I also played with the Citadel Epilogue Mod, the Citadel DLC played like one last adventure years after defeating the Reapers. The mod author made very small and subtle changes to remove all references to the Reaper invasion still going on, and I have to say, they did a stellar job, and there are some places where the original dialogue even fits the new context better — like Joker commenting how he had to save the galaxy to get a good table at the sushi restaurant, or Wrex saying he’s on the Citadel to discuss krogan expansion.

This is now my definite ending. Unlike BioWare’s, it delivers all three components of a well-written ending: affirmation, catharsis, and closure. The frustrating parts are gone and you get to spend a little time in the galaxy you helped save. And it’s so professionally done that someone with no prior knowledge of ME3 could play through the modded game and never realize that this wasn’t the ending made by the original developers.

Here’s the final scene of my CEM playthrough, incidentally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JycvV1x3_qE

Destroy is the only true reasonable ending, I applaud these mods that acknowledge this.

It took a while to get there but seems like Bioware acknowledged that for the Mass Effect Next title.

Of all the modern games I wanna se succeed, this one is up there. Let’s hope this new direction EA is taking will allow it to be great. Cautiously positive here.

Delight: Nyckelharpa. My favourite music instrument, and Loki making good use of it is delightful.

The other two are just pure existential horror.

Delight:

When character writing goes just right and makes solid entertainment for myself and others.

Pet delight: hearing these. Never gets old. There’s something soothing about that voice.

“Equalizing interior pressure with exterior atmosphere.”
“Logged: the Commanding Officer is ashore. XO Pressly has the deck.”
“Stand by, shore party. Decontamination in progress.”
“Logged: the Commanding Officer is aboard. XO Pressly stands relieved.”

They contributed to the seamless feel of the game world, at least the main storyline, the ability to board and disembark without seeing a loading screen, even though the announcements themselves were disguised loading screens. I miss this in subsequent games.

Pet delight is realising that OG Jackass crew made a final Jackass movie, which comes out in October 22, 2021 called “Jackass Forever”.

This is exactly what this world needs in such dire times!!!

When you’re really tired, and you go to bed, and don’t have to struggle to keep your eyes closed.

We just found our cat whom we had discovered missing. Eventually it turned out he had escaped the apartment through the front door and spent last night at the inaccessible top of the stairs, on a platform behind bars. We got very worried, circled around the house looking for him and were about to put up bulletins promising a reward for finding him, but thankfully my wife was able to stick her head between the bars and find him, and we were able to attract him with food — obviously he was very hungry — and take him back home.
