Hi, I’m a bit of a noob so if this is an common thing, my bad. I was playing in a dungeon on a free account, and my pets died. I tried to res, but only one of them revived, the one that wasn’t the main one at the time. Due to the cooldown, I couldn’t res again during the instance. Since then, I couldn’t summon, dismiss, revive or do anything about those pets. I bought the subscription, hoping it could help. I tried to put them in a stable, but I still can’t tame any new beast, keep getting the message “You have an active summon already”. Except I don’t, not even inactive ones? Does anyone know about this and maybe how to fix? Or should I just abandon the toon and make a new one from scratch? Not like it’s high level or anything
I don’t really know what you have tried. But how it works is, when you summon a pet, that pet is made “active”. From there you can cast “revive pet” if it is dead to revive it. If you right click your pets portrait, you can also choose to Dismiss or Abandon it. Dismissing allows you to tame a new beast (Assuming that you do not have more than 5 pets active on you at the same time). Abandoning it, will permanently erase the pet from your character.
Now, if you have tried these things, and you still have trouble with calling or resurrecting your pets for whatever reason, there is really only one thing you can do.
You can try to start a ticket either in-game or through the website.
Alternatively, you can delete your character.
I hope this was helpful. Good luck.

You say your pets died, but you don’t appear to be playing with Animal Companion on. How did you have multiple pets?

Bring out all the pets you can with you. That is, go to the stable master and put them in your current line up. Now:
- Try to summon one of the pets. What’s the error message? If it’s “your pet is dead”, try to use Revive Pet. What message does it give you then?
- If it’s “you have an active summon already”, try to use Dismiss Pet. What’s the error message then?
We’ll follow through once we get those error messages out.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to help me. The reason I don’t seem to have the pets is because they died and couldn’t be revived in the middle of a dungeon, so I respecced to do my damage properly. Then I stabled them to try and tame something new, which also didn’t work.
I’ve followed your instructions as follows:
- Collected my pets from the stable.
- Tried to summon either of them. Same error message appeared, “Your pet is dead. Use revive pet.”
- Upon using the revive, no error message appears, but nothing happens. Trying to summon the pets after using it, the same “dead” error appears.
- If I try to use Dismiss Pet, I get the error message “You do not have a pet”.
- If this is of any relevance, if I try to tame a new beast, I get the error message “You have an active summon already.” This message appears the same whether or not the /dead/ pets are stabled.
Hope some of this makes sense. Thanks again for your help!
Well, that is indeed very interesting. And here I thought I had every conceivable pet error occur to me.
I’m afraid this is beyond our possibility of help. You should open a ticket with all the information we gathered here and hope you don’t get “go to Wowhead” or “we are aware and added it to list of known bugs” message.
