Also peeve, the problematic development that pokemon sword and shield seem to be having. I dont even own a switch, but as a pokemon nerd(and wow pet battles) it still makes me sad to see that a generally hyped new gen and new entry of the franchise is actually having less features.
The two big ones are that 1) No mega evolutions, and 2) no national pokedex coded into the game, so people can not use the pokemon bank. And this feature will -not- be added in later either, but -might- see a return in the next game, either in the new gen or if they make something like pokemon emerald for this generation.
I’ve been very vaguely following the Pokemon drama. I don’t play every generation, because I can’t be bothered. But I really want to play Sword and Shield. Not being able to potentially have your favourite Pokemon if they’re not included is a huge bummer.

I’ve skipped a few gens to mostly due to financial situations, but yeah. The whole transfer pokemon between games/gens has been a major selling point and core of the franchise, has have the national pokedex. So that they take it out completly from the first games in the new switch generation, and -wont- be adding them into these games at all, with the excuse being “time constraints” seems like a really bad decision. Especially when there’s been a large push-back against rushed out/incomplete games in recent times.
Is there a list of what is/isn’t in yet?

So expect the usual, of maybe 100-150 pokemon, with roughly 1/3 of the list being new ones, 1/3 being 1st gen, and the remaining 1/3 a mix of legendaries and picks from all regions.

I mean, part of me understands because with the ever increasing roster of Pokemon it’s only going to get harder to make new games because of the sheer amount of unique character models that you need to make each go around.
I’m not sure what the solution is to be honest, except maybe having an in-game event where Thanos snaps his fingers and half of all Pokemon are wiped out. A random selection, indiscriminate on fan favourites and filler Pokemon.

Some people complain that they re-use graphics, but I think that is sensible and the best solution. When they make a new console, like switch, they should focus on making all the models work on that for the first game, then they can litterally just re-use the same models throughout any new games/gens they want until the switch is replaced.
That is how they did stuff before and it worked. Its how they have done every other console up until now. But the pikachu/eeve one was meant to draw in pokemon GO players, and Sword/Shield is a rush job.

There’s a decent selection of ghost types otherwise though, so not too bummed.
