Pet Peeve: The Undying

In psychiatry there’s an effort being made to avoid stigmatizing people with psychiatric diagnoses.
This extends to people “not being their diagnosis” as in, you have schizophrenia, you’re not a schizophrenic, or in this example; you have an autistic disorder, you’re not an autist.

That makes total sense and I’m down with it :+1:

Well… try too understand the concept of an insult then you understand what and why people use slurs.

Moody with the rare good take here

Referring to someone on the autistic spectrum is as simple as that - ‘a person on the spectrum’. Life is much easier when you’re simple and direct with your terms : )

I honestly haven’t a clue what this post means, amigo. It reads like you’re trying to say that tossing slurs around on the reg among total strangers is justifiable but I’m gonna assume that isn’t what you were going for.

Just look up what an insult is, mate.
A slurs is ment to insult and if you are insulted it means the thing did his job.

Is it justifiable? No, but people are jerks and are going to do it anyway.

Well since i’m a jerk myself.
Thanks for the extra ammo

Likewise. I don’t say anyone is wrong de facto. But my stance if it potentially means disrespect, then use another word.

I’m that unpopular teacher who within my class of young adults I will issue disciplinaries when the two gay guys in my class jokingly call each other f*****s. I’d do the same if the black individuals in my class used the obvious term as well. My stance is if you’re being friendly with each other, use a term that is unambiguously friendly within my classroom. Not run afoul of management yet.

It’s very much “whooooo fun police” but on the plus side by the time these individuals graduate I find this kind of language is basically gone, which reduces the risk of them offending someone who isn’t their bezzie in public who does find the terms insulting.

I’ll never abide to the rules of the easily offended.

They are the literal cancer of today.

I’m not easily offended, but there are some things that will never sit right with me. Racist terms being top of the list.

Well, that’s not being easily offended, that’s common sense.

So what is being easily offended in your eyes?

Anything that don’t matter.

Like people being offended that you eat meat.

The real problem of today is people being vegetarians, not…
