Pet peeves: The return (Part 12)

Wasnt there controversy with a night elf priestess who literally goes and joins the Paladins too as part of their order hall?

Yes and night elves havent let it go since about their reason for having paladins.

it was a genuinely seething statement against priests

Maybe we should be grateful they didn’t try to write a story about nuanced theology for the Priests though, I can definitely see some… problems that might arise.

However, this was a Nelf seething moment, so I will allow it.

They also had the Cult of the forgotten shadow the forsaken formed collapse for reason nnever stated
just so they could hand leadership back to a human for that one

and then they dropped the entire topic off a cliff

even tho her dagger is the current big bad of the expansion

Was very funny that Legion broke the cardinal vital MMO rule of For God’s Sake Don’t Let The PC Be In Charge Of Somethinga (exceptions for small scale stuff like the garrison commander) where several orders that still exist today are now in strange limbo

Like, who leads the Illidari? That’s a question blizzard would like the answer to apparently because they don’t know

Given Danuser’s writing style? “Your god is dead. Doesnt matter your race. They all are. Or their evil. Yeah.”

i appreciate the times where this somehow happens and it causes actual tangible problems. it happened in gw2 if you played a charr where gameplay progression caused you to abandon your fellow soldiers in your warband that you were in charge of. it came back to bite the charr PC years later when unsurprisingly during a civil war they felt bitter about it and took the chance to try and kill you.

It doesn’t need to be nuanced - like the other two I did, Rogue and Warlock I could tell the people behind those quests and halls liked the classes quite a lot and had a good understanding of the fantasy of being a tricksy sneak type and an evil demon wizard. The priest hall, barring the Xal’atath stuff for spriests, felt like it was made by someone who didn’t like priests as a class very much.

Speaking of Priests, I honestly really miss what seemed to have been the original plan for Anduin.

His MoP story arc of using shadow magic and leaning into being a priest, particularly a shadow priest while still devoted to the light, was very interesting.

BfA and onwards he feels more like a Paladin. Or rather that he will become a Paladin.

Later lore conflated Shadow and Void, and in the process broke just about everything along the way

Like ‘hey, how come warlocks and demons heavily feature Shadow magic when the Burning Legion was specifically formed to stop the Void?’
‘uhhhhhhh’

I honestly think that was new writers genuinely not understanding they were different. Im just reminded of metzen having to repeatedly remind writers that the forsaken were not the scourge.

Rogue had some really cool moments but the Uncrowned remain such a stupid idea.

nobody because they all flew off into space to hunt the Legion only to starve to death when they found out space is way bigger than they thought it was

Exactly the sort of stupid idea Warcraft is full of however.

Sounds right for them.

Its at times like these I’m glad the Aedra of TES are just kind of unfathomable, unknowable and unperceivable. Peak God writing really. Daedra are good, but even their constant physical intervention in everything hampers them a bit and makes them look a bit more like Saturday Morning Cartoon Villains than actual omnipowerful evil deities.

Ironically, the only Daedra who ends up looking like an actual eldritch deity of evil is Jyggalag because bro got popped outta existence before anything could happen but still keeps all the mythology of being an absolute cosmic nightmare for everyone involved.

The Holy Light in WoW is just 100x better in every circumstance when its mysteriously performing crazy miracles for reasons we cannot really fathom in the long-term, and the same logic goes for the Void - I don’t want to chat with the Old Gods, I don’t want to perceive a Void Lord, this is ridiculous, they’re Gods, they’re not meant to be actual creatures you fight, they’re more like environmental hazards on a cosmic scale.

Jyggalag is very interesting. The whole myth around him that EVERY Daedric prince decided “No, we cant have this” and banded together for the first time in forever just to stop him.

Its brilliant.

So one of the people I regularly play Secret Hitler with outed himself as a racist, spouting the N-word and calling black people “apes” and making harmful generalizations about them.

The rest of us disdain his views, but it seems likely that he will keep playing with us.

I don’t know what to do.

Im sorry to hear :frowning:

I do feel like it is completely fair to ask or demand that he will simply not be allowed to play with you guys anymore.

My only other suggestion would be to then grab the people who don’t want to play with him and create a new group, but I don’t know if that is something you are able to do?

“Lolling” is a perfectly good word but thanks to internet slang it’s not really viable anymore.

Have you considered poison
