Still love Lyse.
I think it’s her voice that does it.

This is big gamer energy right here.

Join us btw. I used to dismiss FFXIV out of hand for many years, never imagined myself playing it. And here I am, all thanks to Blizzard doing their utmost to get me to at least get a foot in the door.

For real, ask me a year ago and I would have said no, never, FFXIV just isn’t for me.

The true answer is, I simply don’t care about FFXIV’s story or aesthetic (or music). I hanged onto WoW because of the night elves and even if the…Elezen? people might be the FFXIV’s elves and have elvish ears, I’m not particularly drawn to them.

I think I’m content on closing the book on MMORPGs anyway, I don’t need another timewaster for me, so I can focus on other things. :sunglasses:

Maybe sometime in the future, might try out the free trial, but not particularly fond of the idea now. But you best bet I’ll rush through it without reading anything and then complaining about my own misfortunate later, hehe . . .

That’s what we all say…

I’m very big on needing it be visually appealing for me. I haven’t seen anything in FFXIV that wants to make me play and it won’t matter how good the story will be, I simply won’t really be able to connect with it.

To be serious, though, I agreed with you for the longest time. I saw screenshots and the like and it just didn’t look right. I complained. The first time I tried playing it myself, some time over a month ago, I bounced off the character creation screen because everyone and everything looked off to me, and I didn’t return until quite a bit later.

Now that I have gotten used to it… I have grown to find it more and more agreeable. At its best I still probably prefer WoW’s approach, yet WoW gets so much else wrong.

I don’t know. I am not telling you you will like it. Everyone is different, nothing wrong with that. But if you get as tired of WoW and Blizzard’s antics as me, and decide to go try it in absence of much else fetching your interest, you might be surprised.

I sympathise with this, but with pandaren instead. Very little in WoW other than them interested me in recent years. And here I am now, playing a human. A human. I hate humans in WoW, but turns out decent models can do quite a bit for one’s opinions.

Yugiri largely serves as deus ex machina. She is crud.

That’s fine and totally understandable. It’s not for everyone.

Agreed.

A powerful but solemn choice. The age of the MMO is over, it is time to sail into the west.

I’ll point out one thing, though.

That’s how I started. I was so annoyed by constant mentions of FFXIV everywhere that I installed it expecting to have a bad experience, just so I could hate it properly. And in fact, my starting experience was abysmal, as I documented in this very thread.

But once that initial frustration faded, I kept playing and became one of the biggest proponents of it here (to the point I wrote an RP guide for people making the jump from WoW and am currently developing an AA equivalent for its EU RP community).

Not saying this will happen for everyone. Just… it’s surprising how swiftly one can change one’s mind sometimes.

The only two reasons I had to try it were friends enjoying it and some of the transmog looking good.
This was not enough to carry me through either of my attempts.

In other news: I touched a cat today while out and about. So soft ;_;
She lives across the street and I’ve seen her a couple times before. Finally was allowed to pet while she told me very important things and stretched.

I know I’m not alone but I still must express how how fundamentally viscerally unsettling it is to consider the bizzare anatomy of the FF catgirls and whatever that are just mukokuseki humans with animal ears in places where ears don’t go.

Who are you, Levey of Argent Dawn, to dictate where an ear should or should not go?
