Kind of fair but at the same time if you really start thinking of it like that then a whole number of very commonplace things in RP become tasteless.
The real shortcoming is that these are throwaway alts that have no story and do not matter in any way for the only important part of their identity is an explosion.

A good point. I reckon it is about how things are presented. Blizzard’s story has had quite a few dark and violent moments too if you think about it, but since it’s presented in a cartoony way, they get away with most of it, since it’s not overly graphic.
As for the char, if it’s indeed just an alt with a mission to blow itself up, there’s indeed very little to the char…

I ended up respeccing to give myself more health at the expense of mana, and cast Static Field on Duriel repeatedly before he dropped to pitiful health. Even then it took me a couple more deaths (and resurrecting my mercenary, who died in two hits but bought me valuable time to blast Duriel from a distance).
Yeah they fixed it and there’s a perk to avoid it to some extent as it blocks one (1) vault.

I don’t play it, so there’s only so much I can tell you about the game itself. I have a close friend who plays it a lot and loves it, but from his descriptions it doesn’t sound like my style at all.
It’s a very PVP and crafting oriented MMO, so if you’re into that it’ll be the MMO for you
