Unrelated: I started watching March comes in like a Lion which is apparently pretty good but it centres shogi as a major aspect of its story and I neither know nor understand anything about shogi and don’t particularly care to learn, so it keeps mentioning moves and showing board states and I’m like “this means nothing to me”. It’s a good job that the character moments seem more important. It’s not like it’s Sho-Gi-Oh or anything.

Yeah they mentioned pawn+knight+king so I got that it was chess-adjacent.

I like that they’re not spending time explaining the rules or whatever, it’d definitely kill the pacing otherwise.
