If everyone had been able to use them like we do, there’d be practically no travel by ship or airship at all. You’d only ever have to travel once to be attuned.

You’re partially correct but at the same time, there’s still the problem of transporting goods. It’s a rather core plot-point that transportation via aetheryte only lets a character bring along items on their person. If they’re moving anything other than themselves and whatever personal belongings they’re carrying, they’ll want to use mundane methods of travel instead.
The point is that it’s a clear solution to the issue of communities in awkward, out-of-the-way places. Travel by aetheryte is always an option - unless you decide your character is one of the people who can’t really use them, in which case, you’re the one who is limiting your own roleplaying opportunities.

That is correct. In WoW, I did heavily guild-bubbled RP where every time we travelled somewhere it was meticulously RPed out.
I wanted something different here, so I decided to make my character adept at aetheryte use, giving lots of flexibility with public events.

Eulmore just got worse… Gods I didn’t like the first time I had to go there but now that the MSQ demands me going in and what I learned just made me loathe the place even further.

Actually, since you’re this far in the shb story, I’d recommend you either unlock, watch online or re-watch the cutscenes for the Crystal Tower raids from ARR if you skipped them. Its kinda relevant in general, but also has some bits, the lack of which might leave you scratching your head a bit as you proceed.
Can you even skip the ARR alliance raids? I thought they were mandatory to proceed? I remember the game telling me I have to do them to continue (but that was no problem since I did them asap at 50 anyway).
I already watched the tower cutscenes, I made sure to do so prior to even starting ShB. On recommendation of the boys ofc.
Afaik the Tower ones are, at least if you want to even start ShB. Me and the other guy in the group who were new/trial players did them because the boys told us it would be a good idea.
Can’t remember tbh, because I’ve done them years ago. They may not be mandatory anymore, or they may still be. But since Aldru was skipping pretty much everything until recently, I thought I’d warn just in case.
