Pet peeves: The return (Part 2)

That post I made complaining about the NHS bothering me with vaccine booster requests (despite the fact I already have one booked in) got removed for being abusive? Real weird move there guys.

Also it’s not a peeve but it kinda is: Stalker2 announced they’re dropping their NFTs after backlash. Cyberbullying works. But also they should have never done it in the first place, and now we’re all stuck wondering if it was all a stupid marketing gimmick from the beginning.

i’m too boomer to understand nfts and crypto currency. i dare not even try

it’s a pyramid scheme for tech bros, where the only real question is which idiot will scam the rest of the idiots.

something something elon musk??

i’m with you on crypto, but my understanding of NFTs is surface level enough that I can explain the concept.

With so many crypocurrencies and NFT programs floating you’ve got many scammers and hundreds/thousands of scammed. Many of which have already been scammed.

Speaking of, and related, remember serial liar Peter Molyneux? Well his latest venture is also in the NFT space. People have apparently spent a cumulative £40 million on digitial real estate in his latest game that: doesn’t have a trailer, doesn’t have a release date, doesn’t have anything, really, except it’s attached to the guy who promised-and-then-abandoned Godus. Remember Godus? Of course not.

Anyway here’s a funny interview moment:

imagine someone tells you that you can own a piece of digital artwork. then you buy it and you actually just own a link to a google drive with the art piece in it. they reassure you that you REALLY own this artwork. you mention it was stolen from deviantart. they get mad

Well, for a little bit at least.

Except when you use a picture from DeviantArt on your D&D character sheet, you realize that you don’t own it, and you don’t redistribute it anywhere beyond your table.

I don’t for the life of me understand why FFXIV made up its own units of measurement.

It doesn’t help immersion, since they’re just equal to the Imperial units they’re inspired by. D&D has been using feet and miles since its inception, even in translations for countries that use the metric system, and people just accept it. Heck, LOTR uses miles and we don’t question it. All it achieves, for me personally at least, is reminding me of https://xkcd.com/483/ .
