Pet peeves: The return (Part 2)

Come on SE, its really not that difficult, let me just buy 2 rings with tomestones.

Here’s a downside of FFXIV: Square Enix barely thinks about old content, ever. It took basically the entire community screaming at them for over an expansion for flying to be added to ARR zones and for the amount of quests in the Wall™ to be cut down. Previous expansions are full of abandoned systems that have become meaningless and that Square Enix hasn’t touched for years, and lack the basic quality of life improvements that have been added to content made since then.
For example, for all of the bosses made before 3.4, it is impossible to raise someone who died by falling off the arena’s edge. For all of the bosses made in 3.4 and afterwards, it is possible - yet for some reason Square Enix didn’t retroactively apply this to pre-existing content. Why? Who knows.

Unless the entire community is making the same complaint, there’s zero chance of Square Enix acting on any complaint about pre-Endwalker content.

Yet it is still better than blizzard in that regard, as even with a full community complaining absolutely nothing happens.

I do agree that they need to listen to some of the complains tho, most MMOs do

Rava Viera sure are exactly what Night Elf players wish Night Elves were, huh?

I didn’t see many complaints about aether currents - if anything it seems those make for a well-liked system. But they nerfed those to the ground in obsolete content regardless. So there’s that.

Beat me to it. That sums up, like, everything pre Legion. And even post Legion the AP grind keeps resetting because heaven forbid they make one future-proof system, nooooo, only new shiny!!.
Freaking gremlin brains…

2 expansions later I still don’t have a single Legion legendary. Despite actively partaking in the gameplay through out Legion, I never got a single legendary. Ever.

“Bad luck protection potential” or whatever my posterior

You know you can buy them right

I got that vibe from certain peoples encountered in Shadowbringers, but we never really see something like that on the Source. Or have I simply blazed right by optional content (wouldn’t be the first time I realized that later on)?

I dunno what Chieun is referencing here, but since Golmore Jungle exists in FF14 (its in Ivalice) then yes, viera are very night elf like. Matriarchal society, ruthlessly defend their “jungle” (its a forest, its also right next door to a place called The Feywood) from tresspassers, forbidden from leaving said jungle (leave and you are no longer considered a viera) and listen to the voice of the wood (something they lose if they join “humes”).

This is from FF12

The men do not live in the villages with the women, they lead a solitary life defending the home while still seeming to stick with the base principles.

The Veena seem to be the same;

SGE Spoilers

Because Loifa in the end of the sage questline makes mention of defending his wood and he’s a veena

Just before christmas my 7 year old nephew and his mum’s side of the family tested positive for covid.

Doesn’t seem to have spread to my brother’s side or his two newborns.

But sucks somethin’ awful.

I didn’t bother with them before EW because they felt like a slog and an artificial timesink. Now that they’re faster to unlock, I do bother.

Gathering aether currents was one of my favourite parts of a zone - just a very soothing experience

Except for that one current in the nw Lochs.

I’d much rather flying uunlocked simply once you finish the zone questline, but the currents are okay. At least they don’t take forever to unlock.

I don’t mind aether currents at all, but I do sometimes have to restrain myself from doing the compass ones first instead of the quest ones, since the compass ones can be gated by quest progression.

I don’t mind aether currents being a reward for the quests, to be clear, I mind not being able to access some areas with the compass currents due to not having doing the quests yet.

Because inevitably I forget to do them after finishing the zone.
Looking at you, last area in Shadowbringers…

Seen lotsa folks exercising outside during my stroll. Good for them, the density however was just funny.

Generally that yes. They are savage yet not unrefined (their racial gear having some very fine metalwork on it). The guardians of their territory tend to shoot first and ask questions later.

Plus they are also the longest-lived race!

I think it feels very fair that they want you to see the zone before handing you flying, honestly. It doesn’t take long, usually it’s along the MSQ path anyway.

To add to that, they don’t seem to get up to the thousands on thousands of years that nelves do, so they haven’t got members who have been around since the dawn of time and can tell you all the mysteries of the universe.

Yeah, it says they maintain their youth for ‘centuries’. Doesn’t say how many, but centuries are not millennia.

That does mitigate the issue of Starshade’s Law somewhat
