Pet peeves: The return (Part 2)

Meant I’m not sure how I feel about it. I may be missing some context because the images in the article do not load for me, so idk how it actually looks.

At the very least, it’s an unfunny joke at the expense of all of the time and effort that a cosplayer put into resembling a character from his game. Even if there was nothing creepy or untoward about it, it remains tasteless in my opinion.

All of this might be relatively minor compared to everything we’ve heard about Blizzard, but it’s still something to keep in mind. The people working on FFXIV aren’t saints and shouldn’t be put on pedestals. That sort of hero-worship is exactly what led to the “rock star attitude” of Blizzard developers in the first place.

So I’m in favor of calling out the sleaze, no matter where it occurs. It’s not something that I’m going to drop the game over or that FFXIV should be cancelled over, but it’s something that needs to be pointed out and something that needs to be improved, at least in my opinion.

If its the article i’m thinking of, I’m just like; okay the man likes his knee high socks and its not hurting anybody if they’re on a consenting adult.

However maybe don’t look them up while you’re at work?

Eh, everyone has flaws. People not keeping that in the picture have only themselves to blame.

Generally, the more I hear about and from people like YoshiP, the more impressed I am - especially in the context of being a former WoW player.

Sure, people acting like he’s god’s gift to mankind are off the mark, but I don’t feel a righteous duty to go after those who think that (there’s a lot of people higher on that list for me), and I am not ashamed of saying that my impression of the FFXIV team specifically (gets more complicated when you include the rest of SE) has been very positive.

I do think there might be some confusion arising from the fact that the XIV team is only one part of SE, though. YoshiP is on their board, but he’s just one among many there. So when I say ‘I like SE because they did X’, I implicitly mean the XIV team specifically. The structure is a bit different compared to Blizzard.

Edit: Which is not to say I don’t think you should call this stuff out. Do it. It’s good. Everyone is flawed, yes, but equally so everyone can improve. I just try to not take it all too cynically.

I think it’s import to also remember that Japan has a very skewed view on women as a whole.
This is no condoning the above because that is abit icky, but remembering that, it may put into context that for them it’s more of a “haha joke” where to us its sleazy and not okay.

In general don’t put people on pedestals.

Here’s a pet peeve I have from FFXIV:

The inability to have 40 man raid groups…

Makes events far more harder to relay info and DMs.

So, in another Annoying ARR Quirks Peeve.

The Limsa dock that connects to Vesper Bay is accessible on foot. However, you can’t actually travel from there, because it’s not WoW and ships traveling between locations aren’t actually present in the world. There’s also no NPC on the dock itself that can ferry you, you need to talk to the ticketer, who is at the entrance to the dock — but you can run past the ticketer and not notice you’re supposed to do that.

Meanwhile, the Vesper Bay Dock is inaccessible on foot, you can’t get past the ticketer. Unless you have flying, in which case you can mount, fly over the doors, and dismount. Something something my RP immersion.

Why do the two sides of this travel connection work differently?

Another peeve is that your location on the world map (as opposed to the region map) doesn’t always match the region map. For example, Vesper Bay is supposed to be on the west coast of Thanalan, to the point you can see Vylbrand in the distance across the sea. But on the world map, when you’re there, your marker is displayed deep inland. A similar thing happens with the Ruby Sea: when you’re there, the world map thinks you’re in the middle of Doma. This feels, in the words of a certain Ala Mhigan, sloppy, and makes the world map look like an afterthought.

Question! There is a Meruru Meru who registered on Chaos Archives today — is that you by any chance?

You mentioned you were on the Light DC, so might just be a coincidence.

The amount of dishonor you get in RDR2 for killing Horses is just silly. If it was dogs I’d get it but c’mon Horses?!

Farming the 25 bozja clusters for mount speed. Droprate slow.
It’s the last mount boost I need to have all of them.
Just wanna go fast.

How would you like it if i blew up your car?

Arthur Morgan likes horses a hell of a lot more than he likes people

Trivial compared to their lives . Besides I only shoot or steal from thieves or criminals. If it was dishonor from innocent bystanders then sure.

Who doesn’t?

It kicked me when I was looting its bags. It has to die.

Peeve; getting two sets of new glasses, and the right hand lens on the ones I’ve been wearing is wrong (blurry vision at distance)

It may be that the other set is better, but Im not holding out hope at all :< Humbug…

Thats the thing, a horse is both your transport and pet.

rule #1 of horses: only their good graces and abject stupidity stops them from killing you at any moment

I sure love coming down to find laundry I thought would be dry in a pile still sopping wet because some [REDACTED] mom from the middle stairwell thinks the washroom is her personal extra storage.

I can’t wait for summer to arrive so I can dry my laundry outside again, otherwise summer can bugger off.

Warband and Bannerlord taught me that the best way to deal with a dangerous rider is to shoot their horse in the face…
