Pet peeves: The return (Part 2)

Or, y’know, the subconscious striving for binarism.

Then why is it that we have also so many races with so little sexual dimorphism in the game?

Nobody’s disagreeing that all the races in the game are mega roided up + good looking (i guess), thats a different thing. But no matter how much you’d reduce the muscle mass of for example tauren or trolls they’d still look extremely distinctive based on physiology alone

Pretty interesting how those are mostly unplayable though.

humans, gnomes, vulpera, elves (belf, nelf, velf, nightborne) are all playable races

Jokes on Telaryn, only need a Stormruler to cheese the crap out of that fight.

EDIT: or a very dedicated Lenny with a broken straight sword.

My issue is that some of them don’t even really fit the race or that race’s aesthetics, but rather they’re something you expect from a regular to the Forever 21 clothing stores.

The worgen is the worst offender imo.

Eh, not too many draenei and tauren sailors at least. They do it goat like to hold on. (But I had the same complaint about the balance looking wrong and peeving me for female draeneis until they got the long tail option to be fair.)

YES I KNOW I’M LATE.

Oh, I’d love that left one. Except the fangs just going out on the sides because it looks dumb though.

All with pretty distinct secondary s*x characteristics. Vulpera are pretty hard to tell though, I’ll give you that.

such as?

It doesn’t say they’re mammalian either and we do have reptiles who give live birth in our world as well, so I would say the argument for or against wether they are fully reptilian or mammalian is up for debate, most of what I see in the main* games lean more towards them being reptilian. As he said could be both depending on circumstances.

*Numbered series, I did not play a lot of ESO so idk their take on it.

It was the cop-out answer given some years ago when people asked about why female argonians have boobs, I’ll see if I can find a source on it and put it in here. There’s also the possibility I take fanon content as canon, I’ll be the first to admit if so.

A very cursed but plausible theory.

Yeah the fangs are a bit impractical looking. But I’m one of Them™ asking for more customisation options, and this is an example of what I’d like to see.

I don’t have a problem with someone wanting to look like a mega-masculine-male or a Disney princess. Clearly, both are in the artistic DNA of WoW. When those two are meant to be of the same race however, the option should be there to flip that script as well. Or, in the case of my own Worgen at least, finding some sort of middle ground.

The most prominent references for this that I can find stem from /r/teslore and that place peddles headcanon as lore harder than Moon Guard-US. They make little to no distinction between personal headcanons when you ask a lore question, which is incredibly unhelpful.

Not that I don’t mind headcanon per se - there’s been some really creative apocrypha written in that sub, but the way people make no distinction between the two and use the headcanon as self-referential evidence for things is a little off putting.

I very much agree. I personnally wouldn’t use the fangs like that, but power to those who want if it’s an option. And there should be a body type option or so, so we can also play Muscle Ladies or thinner guys.
(And particularly, while we’re on them, for worgens. Because…

Is this a female or male wolf? Who knows? NOT I)

The one meter difference in shoulder width or the chiselled vs soft facial features, all of which are pretty obvious without me having to point them out which is why I’m just going to say agree to disagree and call this discussion quits.

Yeah I looked up and it mostly leads to that and a random quora thread, so I must’ve stumbled upon that some years ago when I first started questioning why they put boobs on the lizard.

Maybe the true answer is just for easier armour fitting on the models, considering they’re all mostly just copy+paste in terms of general posture.

There was the elemental invasion that one time.

but thats not the same thing as sexual dimorphism.

as said earlier:

Patterns of adipose deposition were also significantly different. Sternum and inguinal fat depths and total external and mesentery fat indices were significantly greater in males (5–44%), while rump fat depth was significantly greater in females (1%).

Why don’t fem worgen have fatter asses? It’s what the science says…
