Did you start in Limsa? That’s where most of the characters with the unpronounceable names are. It gets better later.
The world is confusing at first, since it’s not a typical D&D derivative. It doesn’t help that the early quests are terrible at explaining it. I know it’s a cliche to say at this point, but it really does get better.
But if it doesn’t vibe with you, it’s okay. It’s not for everyone, and I certainly don’t think it has the same mass appeal that WoW does.
r/ffxiv has actually done a hilarious take on that in its description. Which will probably stay for as long as the free trial is disabled.
Then stop. If Heavensward didn’t improve your opinion of the game, I find it unlikely that Shadowbringers will. By all appearances you’re forcing yourself to play a game you don’t enjoy, so it probably would be better to do something you enjoy more, instead.

Admitedly ARR can be a slog, I were in the same state before HW convinced me.
ARR - especially The Wall - is a hard slog to get over.
And i’ve done it multiple times like a crazy person.

Oh goodness I’m so sorry for you.
I just bought Tales of Adventure on my alt, best money per saved time that I’ve ever spent.
That is a little extreme description and some what in poor taste. Like in every RP community, you need to find the right people to RP with.
Depends. FFXIV is not for everyone, as some have already mentioned, but are you really betting that WoW will somehow get better? I do think the queues have died down a bit if I will admit anything, but at least you won’t have to stay four hours+ just to get into the game.
You clearly don’t seem to enjoy yourself however, so just quit if you don’t think FFXIV isn’t your cup of tea.

I’ve actually done it 10 times.
All 8 omega alts are over it and 2 out of 4 Spriggan alts are over it.
And I’m slowly getting one of the other Spriggan alts over it because I have nothing better to do apparently in FF.

Only doing The Wall on Spriggan alt because all the Omega characters need poetics for gear and there’s only so many dailies I can do before I want to bang my head against a wall.
