Just focus on MSQ-marked quests and you won’t get lost.
When you hit max level, you then unlock all the max-level content that was released over that expansion’s lifespan at once, so you can easily get sidetracked since it adds up to quite a lot of content over the years.
I seriously seem to discover new things all the time.
I also unlocked pushups, squats, breathing exercise emote the other day!

Same way the Crystal Tower turned out to be a dire threat in the end that was originally a side quest.

That, my friend, is what we call ‘optional content’. 
Which is not to say that it’s bad. I think the Shadowbringers trial series is MSQ-levels of quality. But they’re not part of the same plotline.
I got a huge chunk of time in Endwalker last night. Even made it to the first dungeon.
Feels good to make actual progress. Not sure about playing through a dungeon on console though tbqh.

…That was something and I’m at a loss for words and I need to rest for a while and properly process everything I just saw because I binge-played it for several days straight and just wow wow wow WOW

Don’t tempt me to keep binge-playing. I’d like to take a few days of rest first. I was just that eager to see the 5.0 story in particular.
(And Chieun knows what it cost me to keep playing for four hours straight until it got past midnight.)
Oh no, do take your time, and then once you finish 5.3 do take some time to let that sink in as well.
A good story is best experienced at your own pace
Part of that is due to it being old content. The mech was content that was available right after the MSQ finale but the MSQ didn’t continue until the next patch so now that it’s all out the natural pacing of the content and the story is gone.
Warms my heart to see Lintian enjoying FF14 still as much as they are.
One day, if perhaps time allows, I would love to dip my toe into the RP scene there just to get a feel for what that’s like.

to the extent that I can’t remember when I met Hrothgar NPCs to know their whole deal except for the ShB ones
