Pet peeves: The return (Part 3)

Got outdone by TLOU2.

Kenobi’s issue was never with its plot but with its pacing, dialogue, set design, editing, choreography and actor performance. Whoever was lead editor must have failed their way into the position or was given a completely incoherent collection of shots to try and weave together into a narrative without having access to the script.

If you don’t know how to get a character into or out of a scene then it’s probably not a good scene to have that character in instead of shooting it anyway and trying to edit around the issue five months later during post.

Was a tough competiton year to be honest. FF7 Remake, Animal Crossing, Last of Us 2, Persona 5 Royal and Cheese.

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t even on my radar until a week before launch and it was probably my favourite of the lot which is hard to say.

I forget that’s a game because I have never played it and all I remember is a lot of gamer rage. Is it good?

I’ve also never played it or it’s predecessor. I know it by reputation only.

I thought it was awful personally.

I have played the 1st one but didn’t like the way the 2nd went so didn’t buy it.

Haven’t played but have seen enough giant video essays to know how it goes.

If you liked the gameplay of 1 you’ll enjoy 2, and the story’s pretty good - the Gamer rage comes from the fact that the programmers had the audacity to make a woman stacked and also have a trans boy

I’m sure it’ll have three dozen remasters by 2030 so there’ll be plenty of opportunity to play it.

Play as a mushroom zombie?

A buff girl mushroom zombie to upset the Gamers™.

Wasn’t a lot of gamer rage also directed at how they killed off a very likeable character?
Which, idk, I’m not a writer fella, but that seems like a normal thing to do in a narrative. You know, get those emotional reactions and whatnot

It was too complex a narrative about the cycle of hurt and revenge. Some Gamers™ really are kids incapable of appreciating themes. Buff girl was just the extra fuel.

I was mostly being facetious and that is a part of it but the cirumstances of that death, and particularly Abby and particularly her muscles, were a huge part of that backlash.

I was around Twitter at the time and the amount of work that people put into the ‘proof that Abby’s build is unrealistic’ would be absurd if it wasn’t so predictable.

I’d wager that most people even know a guy who has gone or can go, with mild prompting, on a multi-minute tirade about Abby specifically - like those guys you can send into a fit with the sacred words ‘female space marine’

See, for me personally it wasn’t Abby who ruined the game for me. It was Neil Druckman himself going on twitter, spouting his mouth off and insulting all detractors. Like it soured any desire to even give the game a chance after seeing everyone bashing it already.

Well that and the hamfisted attempt at making players feel bad. “You were just forced to kill a dog! You monsters, we put you in that situation but you should be so guilty!”

Ignoring themes as some do, the dadification or lack thereof makes or breaks the experience for them.

wait i thought the coomers liked muscular women

was last of us 2 just released a few years too early?

Gamers just weren’t ready to get stepped on yet.

Buff clicker would get so much fanart…

they like anime ladies with big muscles.

actual women with muscles intimidate them so they pretend they don’t exist
