For this reason I also would not want to call Hjalmar ‘stupid’ , but rather just a product of the society he grew up in. His dad Crach was quite the same, though the books do show him as being smart enough in his own way, rather than just an axe-swinger.
Yup, she definetly had it coming.
Literally punished for the sins of his mother, poor guy.
Sad too that if he becomes king, the in-game journal does state that everyone expected him to be a weak puppet under Birna. But one of the first actions he does is openly defy her when she brings a peace treaty with Nilfgaard.
He then basically does what Hjalmar does as king, but hinted to be alot more organized and strategic, and focuses on the health of the isles over family glory.
That and the game says he became the founder of a dynasty. So it seems in the end he did accomplish what his mom wanted, the title of King of Skellige becoming hereditary, but he does it because he’s just an actual good king rather than because of political intrigue and collusion with Nilfgaard.
A key difference when discussing a work of fiction is, I feel, the age old adage that written characters “need” to make sense. People are irrational, stupid, and make no sense but characters must or they’re not seen as realistic.
Force projection because Luke can’t get there in person on account of his X Wing bring sunk in shallow water according to an intrerview with Ryan Johnson vs epic throwback scene of Luke force-lifting the X-Wing out of the water to the SONG PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND and then dying in battle to a dark side drunk Kylo Ren thereby solidifying his standing as a Sith Lord and ascension to mastery while simultaneously setting the stage for Rei finally becoming an interesting character and embarking on a path of revenge.
Big cope.
The best (and worst) part of that movie is how every cool and epic scene gets pooped on by the following scene. Here’s some examples in no particular order:
Finn is going to have an epic sacrifice to save the rebels and destroy the canon. Followed by “this is not how we beat the empire” que the giant star destroyer laser blasting the gate down.
Kylo Ren ordering his walkers to “fire every weapon they have” at Luke only to go down there in person instead of firing again.
Your parents were nobody. Ruined in the next movie to be fair, but it was such a great idea that you didn’t need a literal Force lineage to become a hero.
Also disregarding its circumstances and the scene not making sense and the character orchestrating it being an idiot, the light speed jump through the fleet was such a cool scene.
Anyways these movies were made by people who clearly have no idea what Star Wars is about.
A little side note but as much as people like to doompost about how the EU was so much better and Disney bad for decanonising it instead of keeping the EU canon — hyperspace ramming has been a perfectly valid concept in the EU for decades.
Coming back to thronebreaker , I’m in a bind… Rayla is an enormously good card that lets me spawn the card I want as her special ability ( and can be caused to spawn multiple cards if coupled with right cards)… but storywise she is a pain in the behind and to keep her I must become a butcher…
Similar with Eyck and the dragon, I dont want to kill the dragon but it’d be nice to keep Eyck till the end
I feel at least with Skeligge in Witcher 3 they do a really good job of calling out that the traditions are backwards, old and silly, its an almost non-stop commentary from Yen, Geralt and other characters about Skeliggers and their ways. So anyone who plays should know that yes, they are a bit silly, but its still their tradition and as Geralt says in Skeligge, its not really their place to judge the traditions and ways the society works because they aren’t part of it.
I fully agree. And people from outside cultures (rightfully) should pick up on the fact that this is weird, but the locals shouldn’t immediately slap their forehead and go “Oh! How come I never thought of that!” and immediately undo all their traditions overnight. Cultural change comes slowly, unless otherwise forced.
The full Kingdom Hearts collection is finally on its way to Steam in mid-June after being locked in Epic Games Store prison for…years? I think it’s years.
I just love that when on the Continent, if you choose fisticuffs you’re generally seen as a douche, yet in Skellige they love it when you choose fisticuffs.
I don’t know if there’s any interview clips to check the validity of it, but the story I heard was that it’s the VA’s natural accent, which shifted after they moved countries (to Portugal, iirc?).
Finished the finale of the latest gw2 expac. It was…ok. it was the weakest content entry so far. Ill give arena net the benefit.of the doubt for what comes next coz they hit more than they miss.
There was a book about gay dwarf x gay stone dwarf sex though so that was neat. No i will not give more context.
i also love va overlap coz at one point there was a scene with sylvanas, alleria, xal’ath, elisande and sargeras
I haven’t dabbled in it yet, does it continue the awful trend of turning the Kryptis from inhuman, emotion-eating aliens with a fascinating culture, into poor down-trodden babies suffering under feudalism who just need a helping hand?
sadly yes. my sole consolation is that its finally over.
Midnight King Spoilers
Eparch gets ground to dust after Isgarren sweeps in to killsteal as I suspected he would, the “loyalist” kryptis all fall in under King Peitha Windrunner. There’s a big peace talks at the end where the Kryptis and Tyrians now live happily together but apart. at least zojja got her memories back. partially.
the one oddity i noticed during it frankly that i almost missed? the eye of janthir was in the throne room watching the fight and vanished as it ended.
There was so much more they could’ve done with the Kryptis and Isgarren. Alas, it’s much easier to just write a cookie-cutter “just dismantle the bad regime and replace it with a good regime” story. I already got sick of it when FFXIV did it five times, and it did it far better and with far more nuance in each instance.
