The artist who I commissioned to do the cover for my book has approached finalising the work and has - entirely of their own volition, without any sort of request or even mention - done a really cool portrait of the main character. It looks lovely.
Unfortunately, the main character is of asian descent, and the portrait is…really kinda white person. Not the artist’s fault by any stretch, they didn’t have context on appearance from the front.
So it’s a great portrait. Lovely art. Incredibly generous thing to do.
But it’s not the character, and so I feel iffy about it being associated with her, but then I feel bad for feeling bad, 'cos it’s such an ungrateful thought to have.
I’m just gonna say thank you and appreciate the art for what it is (a very lovely piece).
