Pet peeves: The return (Part 8)

I appreciate the offer, someone else has already done so

Incorrect, they destroyed the group by liking it. Their moral failings do not reflect upon you.

am i just a piece of meat to you

Its funny going from a pale cream cat to a dark tabby, I can barely see Mr. Typhon except his white socks.

Just practicing internet safety: deny you know anyone and provide no information.

Its okay, I now have my 2nd cursed pig.

ā€¦ maybe i should rethink naming my first one Amanda after the Saw character, especially because the character who has her appears in my book.

I got a link in my email from a store that they have the new D&D rulebook in stock and that itā€™s being offered at a discount, so I shared it in the group chat for those that were interested in getting it. I was asked why I didnā€™t seem interested in getting it (Iā€™m not running any D&D games and nobody bothers buying the non-D&D books for the games I do run that they play in, which is alright but it shouldnā€™t be surprising I then feel the same about D&D!). I explain why Iā€™m not particularly interested in getting anything new from WOTC because of the way theyā€™re handling the whole thing (trying to monopolize + doing weird video game-y early access/gold edition packages, trying to push their exclusive VTT so they can push microtransactions, etc.) as well as their hyperfixation on using AI more and more in their products being pushed from the top down

This sparked a discussion about AI during which I learned that aside from enjoying generating AI slop at least one of them used AI to generate what his character would do between sessions, when I asked for input on what everyone wanted to do next/focus on next in the group chat last time (in order to prepare some stuff), and I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever felt more hollow about the effort I put into preparing stuff vs someone not even thinking of a response, themselves, when asked to engage outside of when sitting at the actual table

This doesnā€™t just suck from an AI perspective, but from just like a investment in the game thing. Like, the GM is putting in all this stuff week on week between and during sessions and you canā€™t even be arsed to engage your cogitator for five minutes?

I agree with Kora, if you donā€™t care to be creative-- why are you in a hobby that requires creativity?!

i have convictions and i stick with them usually, for better or worse :muscle:

but yeah itā€™s basically this. I donā€™t like AI image slop but like, people generating that sort of stuff about their characters or the game is very much people at least feeling engaged with it and thatā€™s cool at least

that was the entire thing that I was prompting in the first place that apparently caused it to be used!!

I think I need to figure out how to proceed because Iā€™m absolutely not rolling onward as is, but also some people are very engaged and enthusiastic, so I think itā€™s going to be a case of either continuing onward with some new people and some the same, or starting something new up (with or without some of the same people involved)

I wouldnā€™t really say that at all. The Limsa/club crowd arenā€™t roleplayers, theyā€™re basically just XIVā€™s Goldshire - I still curse the WoW content creators who came over and painted the picture that this was all FFXIV RP was (even more so those who painted it in a positive light).

in FFXIV Iā€™ve had far more engaging storylines, character development and all around good writing than Iā€™ve ever experienced in WoW, itā€™s just harder to find naturally and basically does require you getting involved in the umbrella Discord servers for Chaos/Light. Much like in WoW, the US servers have much more tolerance for lore-breaking and the like, so those who go to Balmung inevitably get burned.

While Iā€™d love more walk-up random RP in XIV, I also canā€™t say I really miss it anymore - every time Iā€™ve tried this in WoW I end up coming across a worgen necromancer warlock death knight using growth pots threatening to murder me in broad daylight - FFXIVā€™s RP scene, and the gameā€™s accommodations for it, have some real flaws - but I really think itā€™s been portrayed inaccurately to the world at large.

I thought this was going to be about generated samey animesque character portraits and itā€™s so much worse oh my stars. Literally letting the computer write your RP for you. Iā€™m in actual pain and morally offended.

Speaking of tabletop stuff, my Pathfinder paladin is magically immune to all kinds of fear but I still want him to have a fear of the dark for backstory reasons* - how do I square that circle?

(*his family was assassinated at night when he was a kid and he has Trauma about it)

Mr. Typhon is not sure aout the plastic hairbrush, but he likes being brushed with it.
