Peeve: People who see art they don’t enjoy/see the point in and start rambling on about the art being bad for whatever reason they deem appropriate to ramble on about depending on whatever kind of art they like more.
This goes both way with people who like more realistic stuff and scoff at abstracts because they can’t find an emotional connection or the abstract fan who sees a random nature painting and starts the basically pre-recorded rant about the “artist’s lack of artistic vision” because they can’t find an emotional connection either.
It’s fine not to like something because you don’t like it. It’s fine to ramble on about it with friends. But you’ll just look childish if you do it every time someone very obviously enjoys smth you don’t.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk fuelled by me seeing a stupid comment under some art on reddit that reminded me of that one time some abstract art fan bleated out a two paragraph long rant about my “lack of artistic expression” when I showed people character art I made for a friend’s character with 0 additional context.
Omega is a joyless realm that has become the textbook example of what happens when a clique of players manage to gain absolute control over the majority of roleplay, activity, event and so on, and then the inevitable corruption that absolute power brings to every community.
On top of that there’s not enough Euro players to justify two datacenters anyway, creating a naturally divided and flawed system.
I’ll always maintain that Shadowlands was super fun on release, I enjoyed myself loads (this isn’t retroactive either I was very vocal about it at the time).
Out of curiosity, how are they abusing this power? I invested a lot of my time into Chaos roleplay and I’m interested in knowing whether I backed the wrong horse.
What would you recommend for FFXIV EU RP, if not Omega?
my sole wariness of omega comes from a pair of transphobic nsfw gposers who made it their business to harrass me when i use an alt on that server for beleiving transpeople are human beings.
There is a very particular discord community which has positioned itself as the de facto ‘official’ RP ‘thing’ to the point that advertisement of any other community hub has been repeatedly taken down for asinine, arbitrary reasoning that can be boiled down to ‘we don’t want others on our turf’.
They have a very particular slice of roleplay that they accept (tavern and spa, fight club and ‘social’ RP aka Second Life rp) and multiple attempts from different groups of players to encourage more thematically appropriate RP.
Adventuring, questing, open world are inevitably shot down by one of the moderators or, often a moderator’s ‘friend’ tries to instigate arguments and ad hominem type attacks on those trying to increase the diversity which gets the competition marked as ‘troublemakers’ and ‘malcontents’ etc, then either kicked or effectively made that they cannot advertise things that the moderators dislike.
All of the moderators are in a single guild / collection of guilds (gee this seems to be a trend doesn’t it) and are in bed with one another (sometimes literally). There is no objective handling of anything, it’s all on the whims of the controlling clique who still present themselves as the ‘main’ and ‘official’ way to ‘get roleplay’.
I could go deeper into more issues regarding Chaos such as the pervasive culture of nicey nicey to your face, stabby stabby behind your back but this is an issue across all of FF14’s communities. It just stands out more on Chaos and Omega due to the smaller population problem.
This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. They repeatedly misgendered a friend of mine while maintaining the ‘we’re a LGBT+ friendly’ persona. Fake, two faced people.
unfortunate reality of any online group that there will be massive weirdos and bigots, but it’s especially valid to be wary when those massive weirdos have targeted you specifically
I’m 99.9% sure we’ve had this conversation before where someone came in with tinfoil hat remarks about a cabal of roleplayers controlling Omega and how only Quicksands “Second Life” roleplay is permitted by this executive council. Nobody seemed to agree the last time either.
Housing plot RP only, specific times and days and you can’t even organise things outside of that because in order to advertise in said discord community you need to be ‘authorised’.
I can essentially guarantee that if someone is complaining about a “Cabal” of people controlling RP and it’s all “just social hug stuff”, it means said person is just deeply unpleasant and no one wants to roleplay with them.
That’s the thing, in order to advertise your ‘event’ must match their characteristics that they (the moderator clique) want. They don’t like seeing “Adventurers wanted, come with us to this ancient ruin etc”. Or “Help, my daughter has been kidnapped by an evil sorcerer, looking for brave heroes to rescue her.”
They want “J’ojo Tia my bestie is holding a RAVE at Plot 16 Ward 6 of the Goblet! Lets get smashed!” And similar energy.
