Pet peeves: The return (Part 9)

There was some real weird stuff going in in DA:O from a worldbuilding vs. dialogue perspective with regards to how women were placed in society.

“I swear I’m the bravest of all of you, and I’m a woman,” says the Warden, in a society where Andraste is the most holy figure in their entire religion??

I had somebody say something similar to my blood knight who was just like “?” before he had to remind her that he was an army man, not a police officer.

Got my healer Drac from 35-40 in a few hours. But… ugh…
Healing always feels so ‘meh’ in WoW. I miss City of Heroes support characters so badly it’s not even funny. NOT just being a babysitter for people who tend to rush ahead or do stupid stuff and the constant risk of ‘Its somehow your fault I licked the live plug socket!’ vibes…

Let me CC or debuff enemies, let me buff allies in more meaningful ways than Heal Moar Plz…Uuuuuuggghh…

Completed the Levelling storyline/quests, so now unlocked WQs and ‘Adventure Mode’.
I have to say, I’ve liked TWW so far. It’s felt a little ‘higher stakes’ than DF without making the gameplay/levelling feel any more pressured. Not bad, not bad at all.

Total tangent; first game of 40k 10th Edition (beyond one Index game ages back)
Did very well. Me going thematic/fluffy didn’t hurt, and all bar one of my units performed their roles wonderfully.
My Redemptor Dreadnought was a very angry boy, charging up the map and gunning at various squads before punching two Chimera APCs into ruin. He absorbed so much firepower - literally too angry to die :joy:

:eyes::question:

WoW healing has two modes:
feels bad because people are either all over the place or are going so slow you’re not needed
and
super fun and actually well paced dungeon run where you also get to use class utility

I don’t even think this is restricted or unique to Dragon Age, to be honest.

It’s not so much the case of “do i want to invest my time in a spec” - There are specs that are just solid, but could be underperforming or overperforming simply due to tuning issues.

Fury warrior, bm hunter, ele shaman and holy priest come to mind. Weak or not their gameplay has changed very little between the last 3 or even 4 expansions, with HP having the most changes.

And then you have specs like outlaw rogue, survival hunter, demo lock, shadow priest, arcane mage, ret paladin, augmentation evoker (should have been a tank), enha shaman and ww monk that can’t seemingly go through an expansion without needing their fundamentals redefined or readjusted.

Doesn’t matter if they are overpowered or undertuned, their gameplay will feel degenerate.

I think in general there are just too many rotational abilities in general. You could cut some spec’s rotational abilities down by half or more and it would probably only serve to improve their gameplay in the long run.

Utility is another question. Not a big fan of micro cc and the mobility creep i will not lie (esp. Z axis creep due to dh’s, evokers and monks) but it’s either adding more of it more evenly to all the specs or cutting down hard on it across the specs.

There’s other stuff too like casted spells in general being weaker than their instant variants, most specs aoe being also their single target damage and too many bang for buck abilities (e.g. subterfuge.

The dreadnaughts you encounter in space marine 2 are wonderful

“These heretics have been relentless in their attempts to deplete my ammunition.”

Nearing 290 on the wish grind u_u and it’s this banners and the two next ones I’m skipping

Would be a terrible idea.

They can’t even design the current specs, adding more definition to the specs would be going back to the degenerate game design of Legion where all spwcs were designed around their gimmicks.

For all it’s numerous flaws classic - tbc - Wotlk have had the healthiest spec design. Your specs shared fundamentally almost if not exactly the same toolkit as the other specs in your class (in many cases even similar/the same spenders). The differences between the specs were much smaller and thus there was less diversity, but the game was infinitely easier to design and balance around juggling the different classes, rather than the classes and their specs.

The current talent trees were a step in the right direction, but it wasn’t taken far enough.

Yup! As my army is directly inspired by SM2, including the named characters, it was in fact Valtus (that Dread) stomping around and making it everyone else’s problem :joy:

It’s fine, we’ll grab his sarcophagus out the chassis wreckage and he’ll be up and stomping again in no time~

(I have converted/kitbashed official models for Titus, Gadriel and Chairon too haha)

Probably one of the strongest units in the game in general right now, honestly!

Definitely not, but I don’t think there’s a fandom I personally engage(d) with to whom it’s more of an anathema

Given the sheer weight of fire he shrugged off (ironically, a fully tooled Chimera is terrifying to vehicles right now. Las array spam with auto-wounds on 6s vs vehicles? Filthy ._. ) I can fully believe it. Using Tank Shock followed by his punches does the Big Numbers most of the time haha.

I think this is partially why I’ve found myself enjoying assassination rogue for quite a while because while it has had reworks and removed abilities, it’s been a spec that has largely remained the same since Shadowlands.

Dreadnoughts in general are just insane. The Ballistus one is considered to be ‘really overpriced and bad’ but last time I faced one it killed an entire unit of Kabalites, and then half of another unit of Kabalites, before I got to even have my first turn

In Index mine deleted a Brutalis Dread from across the board, and they just got a points drop, so… aye

Dreadnaughts are so powerful! Why don’t the chapters utilise them more often?

[quickly googles]

ah.
