Phase 2 tank's

Fellow tank enthusiast’s, Phase 1 offered some good runes and i’ve been thinking what phase 2 could / should offer, i cant speak for all but as of now i play 3 tanks,

Prot paladin:
Currently the kings of AOE tanking are in a very good place when it comes to trash / add tanking, however single target and mana can be an issue,

Rune suggestions:

  • Divine Plea is an ability that grants 25% of your total mana.
  • shield of righteousness for that single target threat.

Warlock tank:
strong single target threat however could use a little more AOE and control,

Rune suggestions:

  • Shadowfury will offer locks the ability to AOE stun mobs allowing more control of packs.
  • Shadowflame is a cone AOE dealing shadow and fire DMG.

Prot Warrior:
So far prot warrior seems as good as it always has been, excellent single target and AOE threat, however there is 1 ability that should be a new rune in phase 2,

Rune suggestion:

  • Shockwave, an iconic prot warrior ability that offers good control of packs and adds.

As a whole, as dps are getting more and more powerful through rune and gear, us tanks need more ways to control situations, regain AOE threat and single target threat,
right now survivability seems just fine.

i dont own a feral, shaman or rogue so cant speak on them and what they should get phase 2,

anyone else has any ideas or opinions please share.

I play only shaman and lock and I have put the feeback on on other posts.

The biggest issues right now is warlock aoe threat which is very bad but I feel like it will be much better with hellfire. Single target threat will be VERY good in the future with higher spell ranks.

For shaman the biggest issue is the low block chance. They really need block chance close to 80% to be able to sustain mana without having to take water shield and also in the future hit rating will be a huge isssue for them because both spells and mellee attacks will miss a lot and this will cause threat to suffer.

I think feral druid one big issue would be that they are not able to use barkskin, potion etc without swapping out of bear form which makes it a little clunky and feels unfair. Maybe they would also benefit from a rage generating ability.

Rogue although I dont play I think a very big negative is that they cant start the fight without having to take a hit and then be able to apply blade dance, so basically they lack mitigation and might get one clapped on some bosses (or be forced to open with evasion).

Also there is the potential with evasion that they are able to reach 100% physical dmg avoidance which can be op in some cases.

Indeed warlocks need some AOE upgrades in terms of runes/abilities,

i think feral will naturally scale very well end of phase 2,

and with rogue i dont really have an idea of how they can be improved, its a weird class to try and design tanking around.

I’ve only played shaman tank and the only thing it’s really missing is reliability of the shield spec rune. Sometimes you get lots of procs, sometimes you get none. Something in the middle would be nice. That said there’s absolutely no reason to use a shield currently as a tank shaman so whether or not this will be an issue in the future depens entirely on how much damage will be dished out in raids vs how much healers can pump out.

Warlock tanks will be great with AoE in phase 2, however you need to have paladin in your group.

Concentration Aura removes 35% of interrupts.
Intensity talent removes 70% of interrupts for destro spells.
Hellfire is 30 lvl ability with very strong dps and we already have that crazy Lake of Fire rune with 40% damage bonus for fire spells.

I think they just need to fix interrupts for Horde side. And probably we also need opportunity to have -100% interrupts without paladins.

They have to be very careful with warlock tanks. Druids , pala and warriors have always had talent tree for tanking ,as well as specific gear , Warlock mostly relies on runes, I dont want some abomination running around that can be unkillable god and regular form at the same time with 1 click to change form as there is no specific gear, or talents that make huge difference.

Druid problems:

  1. Lack of a normal starting AoE ability to hook packs of mobs. You can introduce an ability that would cost 0 rage so that it could be used immediately, but had a CD, for example 6-8 seconds.
  2. The second problem with AOE is the swipe, which does not scale with anything. Just 15 damage on 3 targets, lol what? At the same time, shamans received a super cleave for 4 targets, the damage of which increases with the shaman’s level.
  3. Inability to use Barkskin and potions in bear form. Yes, this is a feature of the classics, but new tanks have appeared that are doing well with this. Druids are clearly at a disadvantage.
  4. Disgusting distribution of runes. Wild strikes and tank rune in one slot. No one will need a bear if you can take a cat with WS, especially for an alliance. Mangle and lacerate in one slot, taking into account that the abilities should enhance each other and not be mutually exclusive.

this is interesting, and disappointing,

can only hope bears scale well in phase 2 and get some good runes, correct me if im wrong but in wrath bears have an AOE ability called thrash?

No, the ability is still the same - swipe. It just hit everyone around without limiting targets, and also scaled well from attack power.

Very true. As for hands rune the more i play the more i pick sunfire over mangle or lacerate. For cat and bear. More reliable damage, and found out it scales of ap in bear / cat form.

The chest rune is a major issue. Survival instincts should be on legs.

Druid tank

A rune that actually makes them do aoe damage
A rune that actually makes them do single target damage
A rune that actually makes them have any tankiness (without losing windfury, the only reason to bring a feral druid)
A rune that actually makes them have any rage.

I remember back in the days in tbc i used to tank on my resto druid for some friends, had to spam demo roar for aoe threat. Not sure if you have it at level 25, but it worked pretty well. I had s2 pvp healing gear so none of my other abilities did any damage, I was just a punching bag.

Hey, when you can’t find a tank I guess you have to improvise right? lol

Druid tanks need a decent aoe threat ability. Like Thrash. A rune that turns swipe into Thrash would be so nice. It’s hard to compete with molten blast.

If druid tanks get a decent aoe threat ability. I’ll be udderly happy.
