Ping system with macros doesn't work (mystery solved!)

The ping system help screen tells me I can use the system in macros, but it doesn’t work in any way, shape or form, and I’m just using the exact example the game shows me.

So, has anyone got it to work, is it a language issue, an addon issue, or what’s the problem?

I personally use the following macro

/ping [@mouseover,harm] Warning; [@mouseover,help] Assist; [@mouseover,exists] Ping
/stopmacro [@mouseover,exists]
/ping

Yeah, I used that guide too, but it’s not working for me, at all.

Now that I have (more or less) confirmation that it’s a “me” thing, I’ll see if I get somewhere clearing cache and restoring files or something.

If you make a simple /ping macro does it do anything?

One thing I should note, if you’re clicking the macro rather than having it keybound, and aren’t explicitly setting a @unit as the target then it likely won’t work because you’ll be over a UI element rather than a location in-world.

Simple /ping and anything else returns nothing at all.

I have a macro set up on the main action bar, on a default keybind.

I play in spanish, and the help screen shows the translated command, but that doesn’t work either, and I can mix and match other macros in english or spanish, as long as it’s a recognized command in either language, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I need to check on with other spanish players to see if they have the same problem, but last time I tried no one paid any attention to the request

If you type /ping in chat and it’s not a recognized command you should get the usual chat help blurb when you enter a command that doesn’t exist.

It’s possible you have an addon blocking it via taint or are running into the widespread Blizz taint bug.

I have also not english localization and in-game guide shows us shorten version of macro /отм but it doesn’t work. We found out that full version of the word is working properly /отметка. English /ping doesn’t work at all for us. Maybe it’s the same with you language.

Also be sure you enabled pings in settings.

Oh my God, that was (more or less) it.

/ping returned the “unknown command” text.
/marcar returned the “unknown command” text. This is the command they show on the help screen, and it means “to mark”.

But then, when I was double checking that I have the ping system active and such, I noticed they call the system on the options screen “Sistema de avisos” (or “Warning/call system”).

So I tried /aviso and there you go. That’s the command in spanish.

I’m kind of relieved and furious at the same time

Thanks for the help, both of you!

What a mess…

What about the parameters, do they work in english or do they need to be translated too?

/ping Ping
/ping Attack
/ping Assist
/ping Warning
/ping On My Way

I’ve done a quick check and the parameters have the same issue. English wording doesn’t work, and spanish wording works, but it’s a complete guesswork when the direct translation doesn’t seem to work for some of them and I’m left wondering what roundabout translation did they use for them.

I’ll try to compile a list of my findings later.
