I’m planning to visit US, and was wondering of taking my laptop and potentially play at nights with my friends. I play in EU regions (as I’m from EU). My only concern is that I would be logged in from a US IP address, and as far as I know Blizzard is pretty strict with such huge “region” changes. Naturally I have VPN access, but I also read about that sometimes their services work quite funky and I may get my account banned.
If you encountered a similar situation, how did you resolve it? Or if you have any suggestions, that would be also appreciated.
You can play on your EU account, from anywhere in the world. With out without a VPN, but keep in mind, VPN’s are not officially supported.
Your only issue will be one of latency.
The cross region restrictions are about making purchases of items like boosts, tokens, where the currency on your account has to match the region you atr trying to buy it from. Nothing to do with actually playing.
Make sure your authenticators and phone numbers are up to date before you leave though, as the system will detect the change in location, and may trigger stronger security processes (may trigger an authentication request, SMS confirmation) before letting you play.
