The Allied Races have shown blizzard is willing to tinker a bit with the concept of races in the game. It made me think, what about halfbreed ? Afterall factions and so races within them have been working and living together for a while, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to imagine that various types of half-breeds exist in the lore. We even have some example like Arator.
Now I am not saying Blizz should try to make them playable, or if it’s even possible gameplay and resource Wise. This is more of an exercice of thought, afterall half-breeds are a staple in many fantasy worlds so how could they make them into wow ?
Personnaly I see two routes Blizz could take:
1 The Allied race route, they would most likely take the most likely/requested combination in each faction like half-human and half-elf. And I guess it would be orc and troll for horde ? And make full blown allied race with them, if they are well received they could add more in the future. This would be the in depth option, with a lot more customization and lore Added to that particular combination since they would be like a new playable race gameplay wise.
2 Customization option, you pick a race normally at character creation but you have the option to make it a half-breed, you would then pick the race your character is mixed with, unlocking a few customization option like on skin tones for example and maybe a bit of tinkering on the model size, like I would imagine a half blood elf half orc to be larger than a regular blood elf. You would still keep most of the characteristic of the race you chose but with some elements taken from the other race which would be explained by your character having taken more visible traits from one race than an other. Blizz could play around with racial like by giving you some racial of one race and others from the other or even make you choose your combination of racials. This would be the wide options, allowing for pretty much any combination to be represented but ofc with far less options than full blown allied races.
What do you think ? Would you play an half-breed if it was possible ?

Do we really need more fuel for ERP though?

The erpers didn’t wait for half-breeds to be playable I am afraid.

blizz dont really want to deal with half breeds given there only like three or so in lore and thats turalyon and alleria’s son and veressa’s twins
oh right and garona and whats his name that burning blade guy

“PLAYABLE HALF-BREEDS?”
huh what?
well, im kind of done with allied races to be honest. more customisation options…sure. but not half-breeds. that would be so weird.
unless blizzard finally increases the character limit then i might just play one to max for the achievement/race armor and thats it.

Why would it be more weird than playing a animated corpse or a minotaur ?
because it just doesnt fit into wow. thats why.
i called this about a month ago, if its right then I get all the kudos
half orcs, half taurens etc
(oh gods give me gnome-tauren or undead-pandas pplllleaaasssseeee)
Why so ? Gameplay reasons ?
its just not lore supported. certain races have been around for quite some time and you dont see half-breeds running around all the time do you? its more an exception than a rule. would be weird for me if there would be all of a sudden a ton of new half-breeds.
i mean sure, i get the infatuation of cross races/breeds but it just wouldnt make much sense and feel awful if you d force it now.
only because they have been a staple in other fantasy worlds doesnt mean that it has to fit in wow as well just for the hell of it.
Neither did spaceships and fox people, then blizzard added them and they were forced to fit into WoW.
Anything can fit if you force it hard enough, that’s the life lesson we learnt here.

and when did i mention that this is a good thing to force it? right, i didnt.
blizzard constantly forcing things is the reason why the lore is in such shambles as its now. its an utter disgrace.
I didn’t say that you said it. I said it as a tongue in cheek statement.
Try reading again.
The irony of a velf saying this.
It’s called progression, games stagnate and die without progress, be it good or bad.

i never said that. my points still stand.
Well done, you made a point where a point didn’t need to be made, way to double down.
so thats the argument? because i type from a voidelf? pretty weak.
well thats just, uh, you know, your opinion.
I think we should dissociate people we see in game and how people are in the lore. The game is more a representation, with its limitations, of the world depicted by the lore. In game you see that every human has the muscle of a body-builder even Joe the pumpkin farmer or Bill the beggar, I doubt that is the case in the lore, it’s just the game limitation of having one model for all humans. The fact that we don’t see half-breeds in game could simply be the result of the same limitation, personnaly I find it hard to believe that races like Human and Elves who have been in such close relation for centuries didn’t lead to some intermarriage, even if they are few great heroes who emerged from such unions in the form of named characters doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
I’d rather forget these things even exist.
I have always been in favor of playable half-breeds… Almost all of my DnD characters have been part-something-else as well, so I like the idea of “belonging to two places, but also neither” at once…
The two most obvious candidates would be Half-Human/Half-Elves for the Alliance and Half-Orc/Half-Ogre for the Horde, i.e. the Mok’nathal.
That would be enough for me though, I wouldn’t need a thousand other mixes.
If given the choice between High Elves and Half-Elves I’d go Half-Elves every time, but that’s just me
PS: I don’t think they’d want Half-Orc/Half-Draenei, because they only exist because the Orcs literally raped captured Female Draenei on Draenor.
That’s a bit dark.
The Mok’nathal have a “dark” start to begin with as well, with the Gorian Empire using forced breeding programs to create expendable slave soldiers, but they’ve grown into their own “culture” after this.
While the Half-Orc/Half-Draenei is still just very sad…
