Any further news on if player commendations will be added into WoW?
Some little way to foster community spirit and add something just for fun? Add some achievements + pets/titles/mounts/tmog/whatever for getting 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, some for getting 500 as healer, 500 as tank, 500 as a specific class, 500 from dungeons, from BGs, etc.
Used to love getting them in FF14 and made me feel accomplished. Before anyone comes in saying “no I don’t want another thing to grind >:(”, don’t grind it then! Nobody would force you to grind this.
edit: I also wanna say that it would not really be grindable in WoW as it is in FF14, because in FF you can just spam Guildhests or Trial Roulette - no such thing here, would have to do a whole dungeon.
If the rewards are too little or of no value = very few if any will actually bother with it
If the rewards are of value = WTS commendations, “Can I get a commendation, I am grill in real life” and etc…
Well it wouldn’t be possible to sell commends, in FF the option to commend someone if you partied up with them before joining the instance is removed. It would be the same in WoW or else people would definitely find a way to grind it and monetise it. Like I said there’s no way to grind it, you’d still have to go through an entire dungeon in hopes of getting 1-4 commends, 4 being outstanding and everyone else in the group thought you were nice and funny and helpful - I can see this being a good thing for player behaviour
edit: as well, I think many people when they aren’t sure who to commend just give it to the tank or healer - this can also only be a good thing and an incentive for more peolple to try those less-filled-out roles :)) and it just happens that the people who beg for commends at the end of dungeons NEVER get them, you only get commends for doing the hard roles or being a good player/funny helpful person
To be fair people will always complain that they have to do the content or that they are forced to do it, just because they want whatever the reward is.
SWTOR had something like this in BGs, don’t remember if it had any impact on anything, but always made me happy if people gave me “MVP” votes after the BG as a healer.
At first I thought it was a good system in FFXIV… but the truth is that if you actually want the rewards you have to play a tank or healer because dps rarely gets commendations. Basically a bad tank or healer will get commendation over a good or even stellar dps. To add to that a lot of people cba to give commendations at all these days and just leave instantly when a dungeon is done. All of that makes the system kinda pointless.
People barely communicate in WoW dungeons, most would just leave right after the last boss and click away any random pop-up they get, or even install addons that prevent the commendation screen from even showing up.
It will never work in this community as it’s heavily prefers “Skill” over “Social skills”, you having zero difficulties topping their health bars and doing a moderate amount of damage? “Okay good, that’s what I expect from you!”
They wouldn’t be like: “Oh fantastic healing and wow you did quite a lot of damage, here take my commendation!”
The reason why it doesn’t work is because WoW generally has a lot of grinds to go through in comparison to FFXIV which has fairly little if any real grinds. Where there’s grinds to get through, people don’t have time for the social aspect.
Aside from the grinds you have warcraftlogs, raider io and similar addons that somewhat forces them to perform. Addons like that are not officially accepted in FFXIV and even comparing or mentioning somebody’s damage output could get you banned.
