Its kinda funny how many people here that are against housing are all spouting “it’ll make wow feel empty, its no longer an MMO” as if those people interacted with anyone to begin with. It might make cities empty of AFKers but i doubt itll make the open world anymore empty than it already is.
I think as long as they add cosmetics for the housing that drops from raids etc that would be awesome
Agreed which is why I suggested they should start releasing a bit more information to manage players expectations.
Personally I think PH as an expansion feature is a far more bigger attraction to draw players, even if it is 10 years too late. So there has to be method to their PR madness.
Yeah, I agree. I will probably just play by myself and be alone in my play house and not want to see or talk to anybody in this mmo. Lets hope we can pick location top of a mountain or isolated on an island middle of the sea
I think they corrected that initial impression people had quite quickly. Iirc they just want to avoid too much waiting around for the next expansion, my guess would be (but eh, just a guess ) TWW will last 18 months at least, if not more.
So basically just like warbands, promises now and then we get it in a decade… “if they have to finish”.
Visions were fun especially with masks
I’m discovering this now, finally!!! This and the ground mount “dragonriding”… I couldn’t have asked for more. Now I don’t know what else to wish for! I hope they get these right, but I have a good feeling this time
About time it was added.
Could of been done at least a decade ago though.
Might not be everyones cup of tea but i personally feel more content is better than no content.
I have been a advocate for player housing for multiple years personally so pretty happy to hear about this.
I’m gonna have the biggest housewarming party Azeroth has ever seen! Exclusive guest list though Invites are already in the mail…
I was giving it a bit of thought.
Id like them to bring back dailies for the player house system.
Which reward rep, transmogs, furniture, recipies and mounts/pets.
Simular to the renown system.
But with things like the mop gardening but upgraded with wod garrison upgrade systems.
…
Anyway after that they should add a hearthstone queue to wow.
Prepare to see (even more) deserted cities
I wonder will players be able to buy and sell? Buy> renovate> sell! Flipping real-estate in wow
If it is instanced it don’t count and given the problem of administering plots with the numbers of players I doubt it will be anything other than instanced. Best we could get is communal zones on an instance so a number of players share a zone. For it to work you need to be able to share your activities with others that can view your home. It would also benefit from being able to grow organically so you can interlace spaces with other players.
If it just turns out to be another play on the Garrison I doubt I would bother in truth. It really needs to be interwoven into the fabric of the world and fully accessible by other players.
I could have sworn there was another game called Midnight. Seems an odd name for an expansion. Just Googled Midnight and yes its an old game, thought it rang a bell. And sorry if this game has a night time theme then I probably would give it a miss. I’m sick of the darkness in this game.
The fact that they have left this so long, and other games have done it, and are doing it so well cough “WildStar” and “ESO” I expect this to be good. I expect multiple choices of houses/plots and the ability to customise how I wish. I want to build sets that I can actually RP in…you know…the main part of a MMORPG that previously they have neglected shamefully.
How you have done it for the last 20 years, well it’s getting stale and other games now are on your tail. Impress us, show us that the only reason it’s taken you so long is not because you had no creativity, motivation or drive…but that your ideas, your scope was going to blow other games out of the water…

I know something you don´t know…

The questline to acquire them has already been datamined… as well as the new professions carpenter and stonemason required to complete it.
It starts off with you talking to an NPC in OG /SW, who tells you about a group of crafters that are quarreling bitterly about how to best improve the city… .teh Carpenters and the Stonemasons (in teh case of SW, yes, the same people that later became the Defias Brotherhood… not all of them became criminals, some remained loyal).
Both have legit arguments, you have to choose one faction… This will have you being looked at disapprovingly by half teh city, and approvingly by teh other half… think like the end of the original DK starter experience, but without the rotten fruit, and with a counter-group welcoming your presence you.
Some merchants will give you 50% discounts on repais and services, others will raise their prices 50%. This stays in effect until the entire questline is complete, but has zero actual implications, because you simply repair your gear or post your auctions at the guy standing next to him that is on your side if the guy you’re currently talking to thinks you´re a douche.
And so over the course of approx a month you then learn their craft and things that will later be available to build your base home structiure as you progress, out of either wood or rock depending on what you chose. At the end of the line, you will have become a journeyman in said profession.
You then level up that profession (currently only 50 skill points and no specializations) by gathering the mats and crafting items like exotic Stranglethorn redwood chair, or Algari marble Table, or basic granite or hardwood walls and floors, which can be sold on the AH
Neither choice has any limitation on teh materials you can use for building, as you can simply purchase pieces off the AH if you cannot craft ehm yourself. You can switch professions later, but be warned that the first time you do so will be an aldor /Scyrer "we hate you now " deal…BUT, mastering both professions grants the “We COULD just work together…” Achievement, allowing access to both professions permanently, and setting both factions to exalted with you AND ending any bitterness betwen them, as it wasn´t really a big fight about something truly important to begin with. Oh and the “Union Boss” title.
Now, now do you get wood or rocks? Simple, you beat up random trees or punch mountains for generic hardwood and granite, just as in most survival games. For specific mats such as Algari Marble, you have to do it in the correct zone and then they replace 50% of the generic hardwood or granite you would normally get. The idea being that hardwood and or granite, while initially and even later needed for just about everything, quickly become irrelevant as a material to track for anyone engaging with the system more than supercasually. They´re really just there to teach basic material managemet and crafting mechaniics and then become a non factor once the basics are taught, while also not making things like marble or redwood superhyperrare and embarrasingly hard to get, requiring hours of farming just to build an ottoman.
Speaking of the Ottoman, other professions will OFC also get tied into the decoration and crafting aspect… Arcane Candles for permanent lighting from Enchanters, leather coverings for furniture from leatherworkers, Thorium Cutlery from blacksmiths, Comfy pillows from Tailors…
This entire farming and crafting part itself is however entirely optional, you can simply pay others to build the pieces of your home and decorations for you via crafting order, or purchase them on teh AH … but you may then wind up with people cheering and sneering until the end of time /you actually just finish the questline
Parallel to that, the Kirin tor, together with your faction leaders, would like to reward you for saving the world over and over an over again, by granting you your own domicile anywhere in teh world. Literally anywhere you can stand.with minor limitations. After completing a short questline, you immediately unlock access to a No mans sky /Ark:Survival -esque system of placing generic floors and walls to build your home more or less according to your own design, 2 stories and ~100 M2 max initially. Current plans are to be able to scale this over time, though the exact timeframe is still fluid, but triple both of those numbers is seen as realistic from a load perspective, and fully using all space and building materials in all (currently 3) levels will grant a title each time, currently these are all encyrpted, but rumors are that the first 2 are “Homesteader” and “Master of Mansions”.
There is also a datamined achievement “New Karazhan?!?” that is currently linked to nothing… Possibly a long term thing, maybe for using all of the floor space and putting 6 (or more?) stories on top of it…
It can be built quasi anywhere with some limitations (not inside the auction house for ex), because choosing a spot actually only places a marker portal for you personally and members of your party. Nobody else would ever suspect a house there…because there is no house actually there, this is a security feature. Your house is in reality (probably) in a completely different place on the actual map (that is also choosable within reasonable limitations), so the the outside environment is more or less freely choosable (but at this point not customizable because physically “in” the actual world, merely instanced /phased off)… but you could have your portal in Dornegal but the house itself is on a floating rock in Nagrand… Or both are on the same floating rock because you think flying is security enough.
The lore reason for the portal and the house not being visible is that since you as a Champion of Azeroth are likely not going to be home all the time, the Kirin Tor took it upon themselves to place arcane wards that only you personally can see to protect it. They can´t even see or dispel the wards themselves, that´s how important you and some of the artifacts and treasures you own really are.
There are some more details, like the ablity to diablo-esque simply drop equipment on teh ground (one current tech limitation to this, that´s about to fall, is believe it or not ring transmogs), so that you can literally just be sitting on a pile of gold and magical armor like Smaug when at home, but some “minor” technical challenges likely exist (= OMG these files are older than I am, how in god’s name has this game not literally exploded yet… )
You can move the entrance portal on a 24h cooldown using a beacon that you get (toy collection), If you so wish you can set your hearthstone there, and if you wish you can exit through the actual front door into an instanced outside version similar in function to the garrison (instanced, but seamless transfer to the actual open world, but only you and your party can see it…and while the entire house can be teleported to a different place for 500k gold on a 1 month cooldown as a special service ( the Kirin tor really aren´t there just to enable you to wake up in a different place every morning, the do have actual things to do, you know), it will initially "probably"make more sense for most players to simply rebuild it somewhere else, which has no cooldown, and it costs nothing in and of itself once you´ve collected the items like walls and tables… Oh, btw you CAN save 5 floorplan templates currently.
Oh, right, did I mention there will be outside Customization?
In addition to your own racial style, which you know be default, you can gather “Architects Blueprints: Human” (or any other race) to learn their style (your faction only) when you reach exalted. And almost every quartermaster in the game will sell, for ex in Valdrakken, “Draconic Domicile Adornments: Bronze”, in addition to the Architect’s Blueprints which will however only be available if they have a distinct Building style . So for Ex. Sporeggar would have both Blueprints and Adornments, Honor Hold being “typical human architecture” would have only BC /Hellfire Peninsula themed Adornments and no blueprints,
“But I wanna live in a Troll / Human Hut-House, and I´m a gnome that has never been to Stormwind and this is my only char!”… Aah, fret not, my fellow sawn-off dwarf, as scribes can make sellable versions once they learn the one from teh quartermaster, and these can be learned regardless of faction and reputation. ANd of course elements can be freely matched… you could build one floor alliance, one horde, or go dwarf /troll/Void elf… but the resulting visuals of some combinations may be… “interesting”, to put it mildly… please try not to get yourself banned by building a thin Spire with a mushroom head and 2 hay bales on the ground, mmkay?
And it´s self explanatory that all of this is warband-wide… no need to learn blueprints on every char, or level the profesions with every char, but you can OFC do the latter on your alts if you wish for the sake of convenience. Crafting recipes for sellable items however, including the Scribe tomes, will not be shared.
So if for ex. you want to sell tomes with both an alliance and a horde scribe, they still both have to learn the corresponding tomes from teh quartermasters themselves, and will not both be granted the ability to craft them just because the other learned them (also Meaning alliance chars cannot craft horde tomes and vice versa). The same holds if 2 tailors on the same account both want to craft pillows, in accordance with the way WoW professions have worked, well, since the beginning of time.
And if you believe that any single word of that is actually true, I´m also the broker for the Tower of London, Prince Charles has decided that Status symbols are passe and is therefore selling it, including the crown jewels, for just 100k GBP… loet me know if your interested, first come first serve
But. please, everybody, feel free to expand on it or present your own ideas…
Blizzard has something cooking, we know that much, and Ion said they want lots of feedback.
But we have no clue currently about any of the mechanics of anything.
So all we can do is present our own shots in the dark, so to speak our own leakseaso-esque posts, as to what WE want, or think would be a cool way to do it.
Because even if we are completely wrong as to how the mechanics of housing actually work, though someone will inevitably hit the nail on the head eventually, just as enough monkeys in the same room will eventually write Romeo and Juliet, that doesn´t mean they can´t take other “stowaway ideas” like the scribe-architecht tomes, or carpenter-stonemason profession rivalry, or the kirin tor wards explaining away why it´s only permanently visible for us personally and yet we don´t have to actually travel there conventianally…
Omg Credulon, that sounded so good to me.
And now I hate you
