Dear Blizzard, Please make it possible to hide player markings, I do not wish for my game play to be ruined because other players need to mark me as a tank for whatever reason.. those big symbols on top of your head is causing severe discomfort. If you are able to hide nameplates etc, it should also be possible for individual setups to hide player markings while other players can still see them. Especially now where you have disabled addons such as “younotouchy” that automatically removed marks.
Just ask the group leads (who are the only ones able to apply marks) to not do it. Be aware that this may mean they decide you are not right for their group.
At the same time if they don’t agree you also have the option of leaving the group to find one that is more compatible with your playstyle and preferences.
That said I agree that it would be nice to have a option to hide group markings or even to apply personal markings that only the player can see - and if this is important to you I’d suggest using the in game feedback form to submit a suggestion directly to the developers (Esc->Support->Report Bug or Submit Feedback->Feedback).
This addon used to allow you to hide them

But I have no idea if this function still exists in the current patch
Its not raid markers - in raid i can see the point in having marks on ppl.. i am talking about random dungeons / delves / whatever…
Those icons are called raid markers. Also in dungeons. They are usually put on tanks and healers. So we are able to follow the tank and people do not run to far away fom the healer.
^^ This
The thing you want to remove are called raid markers, regardless of the content.
People use markers in various content for all sorts of reasons. Marked tanks are the most common in my experience.
No idea why you find it distractive .it helps to keep track of things .as most people in normal dungeons and delves are still learning .
Asking ppl to not do stuff in wow - are you new to this game. There are way way way to many players around that can’t read or don’t care that actions that they may need is annoying others. I always ask as politely as possible when the damn dungeon starts to not put marks on me, and bam 5 mins later some DPS is marking me for some obscene reason. I have already made the suggestion to blizz via the feedback form. Most annoying part is that the you no touchy addon worked like a charm until the latest prepatch where they blocked all the addon stuff. Classic blizz, if it aint broken, then lets brake it.
Some people struggle to see as well as others and the marks help.
maybe you are new to multiplayer and mmo .if you cant handle people you should go and play single player games instead.nobody will bother you there .
I always appreciate a marked tank!
No, there is exactly 0 reason why those marks shouldn’t be applied only client-side instead of server-side.
If someone wants to highlight friendly players, let them do it ON THEIR SCREEN EXCLUSIVELY!
If they want to mark something important, there are raid group markers and the Ping system. If it really comes down to marking allied players, the group leader should be able to “request” a marking override for the group that players can individually decline (means the group host request it once, those that accept the quest place the marker automatically on their client. Those that decline it have no marker changes executed).
Perhaps there could be a checkbox: Allow player markings?
Default is on, but if someone is uncomfortable there is a setting for it so they can’t be marked.
I don’t see the harm, never thought about it, but I do understand not wanting to be subjected.
It can be distracting if you are the one who has the marker on, clogging your screen with too many things. He’s asking not for the removal of the marker but for a way for him to not see it while others do still see it. If you are the tank you already know that, so it’s only relevant to be seen by the other 4 party members, not yourself as well.
When I started doing M+ in Df I found those very distracting at first, some people put them some don’t. Personally, in a group of 5 I don’t really see their value, since you only have 1 tank and 1 heal, how hard can it be to keep track of who’s who? I find them more useful on mobs than on party members. In raids of course, that’s a different story. But he’s asking for a function for this in parties not raids, so I can understand that.
Raid markers are shared between players to enable effective communication - Raid leads often place markers when discussing tactics and do need the rest of their group to be able to see them to know what they are talking about - and while that is less common in dungeons it still has it’s place sometimes.
My personal issue is with how big the icons are in general. I am less annoyed by them than OP (but I understand the problem behind it). Just make them scale-able for yourself then? So that you can make them super small if you don’t care?
