I have argued for this in the past, and I still argue with this to a certain extent.
There are things however which should be Character locked. i.e. Professions Recipes. Imagine if all you needed was Honored to unlock all the new Profession recipes for all your characters. There would be no economy left. Some players will actually get Rep on multiple characters so they have access to all the recipes. It’s like a gate which keeps other people out who are not willing to put in the work.
This I disagree with. These are all part of a Characters power progression.
These grinds are all part of World of Warcraft, and well if you want to be playing World of Warcraft, you need to expect to be playing World of Warcraft. If you just want to skip the content, then what game have you got left to play.
On the other hand, the Covenant Sanctum upgrades aren’t, and should be account-wide.
The main thing putting me off Torghast right now is Torghast itself. I haven’t even unlocked the Box of Many Things… the whole game mode just does not interest me.
Right now I fill up the Vault on my Druid, since I don’t really feel like doing higher keys, then I do little bits of things here and there with my alts.
I log one character, do a weekly, do a part of the chain to get the belt.
Little steps, it is not like I am in a hurry or anything
Totally disagree with this. I am not grinding Ebon Blade to Exalted on my Tailor to get some recipes that are basically transmogs at this stage. I have Ebon Blade at Exalted on my Paladin Blacksmith and possibly on my Shaman Leatherworker (been a while).
If you want to gate the BoA for recipes until they are legacy content then I could be persuaded.
In fact in TBC recipes were BoA. I don’t know if this was implemented later or they were like this at the time. I wanted a tailoring recipe from Outland Nagrand and my Paladin Blacksmith was able to buy the Tailoring recipe and send it to my Tailor.
Firstly I don’t want to skip it, I want to do it - Once.
Secondly, Torghast is meant to be a fun side activity with crazy powers to play with. But these don’t become fun crazy powers until you’ve done the Box of Many Things grind. I’m not going to grind this up on my Shammy to the point where I’m having some fun and then try it on an alt where it’s no longer fun.
It took 2 weeks to get to Honored with the Enlightened. Now imagine what the economy would have been like if everyone had access to all of the 233 and 262 recipes all at the same time.
I can understand where you are coming from with this point. But I guess when I work through old things like this, I don’t work on getting all the things at one time.
So, for example I may have done the Grind on my Rogue 10 years ago, but my Mage wants the recipe. Well, I’m happy to do that bit of the game again, because it’s replayable.
And lets face it, most of the old Rep are earnt by just putting on a Tabard and spamming a few dungeons anyway.
Back to replayability though. You don’t need to get everything done in one go. I still got back and redo old content I completed over 10 years ago.
Torghast is meant to be that… but Torghast failed to be that from the get go.
I guess that’s where we differ. I enjoy seeing my alts have the same progression as my mains. I don’t expect the game to be finished just because I completed it on one character.
I’d be ok with that.
But I’m not running Argus on any alts, barely did it the first time.
Those times when you’re trying to put together a new Transmog set and you find that you don’t have the recipe. I’d be ok doing some dungeons, even dropping a banner and killing mobs for a few hours. I’ve run raids and dungeons for mogs before.
But I’m not grinding Argus or the Maw or dozens of other factions that sucked the first time.
I actually really enjoyed Argus. It was really fast rep to earn, even more so during Rep Boost weeks like the Legion TW coming up in a few weeks.
I did it on 3 characters during late BFA whilst I was trying to get all the Paragon Mounts. I think I did it when they had the Impressive Influence Buff during late BFA start of Pandemic. I did it in 2 days of questing and WQ’s. It’s not hard.
But that feeling when you have worked hard for something and you have finally got it and can show it off. Just feels amazing.
Luckily there’s nothing worth grinding for from the Maw. Although the Paragon Mount is getting annoying.
