I’m playing through legion now and there are some things that confuse me.
I’m a jewelcrafter but so far I’ve only gotten two recipes: one gemcut, one ring through quests. Is this normal, or am I supposed to be able to train other recipes somewhere? The jewelcrafting trainer only sells 2-star upgrades to basic recipes that I don’t have.
That trainer told me to keep gem chips tiny leftovers from prospecting. I could turn in five for a quest earlier. Now I’ve got another 20 or so, because it seems most prospecting doesn’t give any gems, just this byproduct and I can’t turn them in or use them in a recipe. They’re still labeled as a crafting ingredient though.
So I have this legacy weapon, which has the phoenix special ability but it’s grayed out. I’ve upgraded it a few times but it says that the weapon’s power is drained to heal azeroth or something. From what a friend told me, this Azeroth wound happens at the start of the latest expansion. So did blizzard deactivate legion content for everyone, even before you’ve played through it? Or is the weapon going to activate later on in legion?
Every now and then I get a quest that lets me choose between several items with a different name, that all do the same thing: boost my legacy weapon by 4 or so levels. Some are from different specializations, but so far there were always 2 within my own specialization that seemed to do the exact same thing. They add a few levels and that’s it. All that’s different between them is their name and their icon. ???
During 2 gemcutting quests I had to do a mini game. How well you do determines the quality of the gem you cut and the questgiver comments on this. But you do not get that gem, I just get the quest reward which is the same regardless of how well you do. Is this a bug or just flavor or am I missing something?
In my mage guardian hall there’s a ‘researcher’ in the top center area. She is shown on the map by a scroll that says ‘tirisgarde researcher’. Talking to her does nothing. Does she have some use later on?
Quick answer to point 3 and 4: The weapon had a whole lot of skilltree-like upgrades when Legion was the current expansion, but its disabled now. (Thats why the point 4 mentioned items do the same, they had different functions back then)
Now its just a weapon.
1 - Profession quests, elite rare mobs, and world quests (unlocked at 110) will get you more recipes.
2 - Gem Shards? No idea
3 - Yes they are disabled permanently
4 - These offered extra abilities to your weapon for each spec but now that weapons are disabled they’re useless (unless you want to get a higher level weapon)
Thanks for the replies! The gem things are called gem chips. I’ll edit my post.
I think it was a bad decision of Blizzard to disable expansion feats before you reach the end. They could’ve had it happen the moment you start war for azeroth or ding level 110 or 111 or something.
Don’t bother keeping gem chips, unless you want to skill up old and pretty useless Legion Cooking for an achievement of something. The comments here explain what they were for.
I do agree that it would have been better to retain Legion mechanics through levelling, and for any potential future 110 twinks. I suspect they just didn’t want to deal with the complications, and potential exploi… errr clever use of game mechanics … if someone found a way to activate them in some area not expected.
Hmm, those gem chips are underwhelming. Especially when most times I prospect they’re all I get. 5 ore for 1 gem chip. Occasionally I’ll get a gem, but the few recipes I’ve gotten through quests require 4-6 gems. :s
Honestly, there’s not much left of professions even in the currebnt expansion. I wouldn’t spend a lot of time on professions in previous expansions unless you’re just going for achievements or completionism.
