Playing WoW in Space

So when Musk goes to his wet rock and NASA actually does something, they will have some kind of connection to the earth right? It makes me wonder when we average joes inhabit those planets will we still be able to play wow on our laptops? Wouldn’t it be so awesome to raid with your guildmates, at nights, in space.

You won’t be able to play WoW on earth from any planet other than Earth. The lag would be so big, those things are far away. Maybe you could have tolarable lag from the moon. From mars the delay is from 10 to 30 minutes depending on how both planets are aligned. Venus, well, you can’t realy survive on the surface but the lag would be simillar to mars I assume, maybe the upper limit would be lower. Any other planet or their moons are even more far away so the lag will be greater.

Kind of pointless to even think about what it would be like with modern technology because this scenario would obviously take place in a futuristic scenario. Anything could be possible by then.

Always question that which seems obvious. That’s how the biggest scientific discoveries were made possible.

Just get virgin media, if Usain Bolt can use his phone in space then you should have no problem playing WoW in space on their connection :smiley:

It would have to be something so ridicoulusly powerful to get a wifi signal back to earth that is is impossible at the moment.

I think you’re underestimating NASA’s technology. Anything in that sector and the military one is decades ahead.
That being said, the problem with trying on the moon is… well, getting to the moon first ? /run again

Well, it would be a matter seconds instead of minutes. It takes a bit more than a second to send a radio signal to the moon. It still would be bad, about 3 seconds to get a signal there and back but it still better than any other celestial object in our solar system.

That would be a reasonable solution to set up seperate infrastructure on other planets for online games. At leasst until we discover some subspace communication.

no of course not “wifi” but still you would need an incredibly strong transmitter. you guys are taling about radio signals. with WOW you are talking about alot of information being transmitted which has to be very reliable.

Actually I stand corrected! apparently it is possible to get 4g like inter net speeds on the moon via laser! its patchy apparently and doesnt always work plus quite complicated.

You could probably use high frequency signal as there’s going to be no anything in space to get in the way (Probably the only place full 5G would work :stuck_out_tongue: ). Then again there will be just background electromagnetic interference. Interesting idea though.
