Since the prestige and achievement mean nothing in the age of exploitive consumerism why not allow anyone to become a scarab lord at the swipe of a credit card?

It’s not quite the same cause the people are not paying for the mount. They are paying for the ability to use the AH and mailbox anywhere, which is something the game could provide at any time through the UI if blizz wanted.
It’s a huge scam. But, we want the convenience, so we willingly fell for it.
I wouldn’t be interested in say a grey qiraji mount. Heck, not even the black one. It’s an ugly mount.

Why stop there, 2026 its 20 years anniversary for Naxx, let loose of the “courrupt ashbringer” as item, so we get it as transmog and can equipe it and hear the whispers. Just set a price tag on $100 us dollar.
Who cares ? Want a pixel pony and are willing to waste 200E for it ? Fine by me. Those people subsidize the sub price not increasing since 2004, so I see it as a net gain.
I mean… There are a ton more stupid ways to burn money: I smoke. Its not just literally burning money, but on top it is a very long and convoluted way to comit suicide. And we are making a big deal about spending money on a pixel mount ? Which by the way is useless cause it cant fly ? 
How about we talk about WHAT they do with the money. For example, WHY in gods name do we have all this class tuning for a Mythic Raid nobody cares about, while M+ scene (which is what most people do) is absolutely garbage and ignored ? How about that?

That’s kind of what happened with the throng of players who migrated to Area 52 with a scepter ready in WotLK. Two swipes of the credit card, in fact, since most of them didn’t stay there afterwards.
Some things are too sacred to be bought with real money. The Black Qiraji mount is definitely one of those things.

Putting this mount up for sale is some straight bs, but how is it an issue of prestige when the old longboi had 0 prestige attached to it?
Nobody in the history of this game went “wow a longboi he must be good at game”

Never saw scarab lord as something supercool, but if you were to say that it holds a degree of prestige, I get where you’re coming from.
Not so much with longboi though, it’s just a mount with utility and is about as interesting as any other of the mounts that have a vendor attached.

Some “scarab lords” simply transferred to new wotlk realms and facerolled the title + mount (that time new realms didnt have aq opened by default).
So you had the chance to get it by “swiping” the card.
Same goes for bfa brutosauros, you could get it with real money.
