Please Blizzard can you make so you could freeze a character in time but not be able to fight or something? Dont want my old Vanilla priest to suddenly turn level 25 :(

So sad that this character that i have saved from Vanilla time suddenly will turn level 25!

Would so much love to have some sort of freeze in time debuff/buff to stay the same but not able to do battle or anything etc. Just for the memory of it. Anyone else have old vanilla chars they have saved?

A lot of people do, but doubt blizz will do anything about it.

Personally I don’t get that sentimental over virtual items, but if it’s a character from vanilla I can understand the attachment.
Your best bet is to just keep a scrapbook of screenshots, and save them somewhere safe. I still have lots of pictures and pvp videos of the old MMO I used to play. The management are ruining that game, but I’ll always have the memories of the good times immortalised in mp4 format xD

If you want memories, take screenshots, make videos, do something you can look back on (rather than expect the game to cater to your nostalgic throwbacks).

Whenever I want a dose of nostalgia I’ll pour through videos I made back in Vanilla onward rather than expect a feature that freezes characters and renders them useless purely so people can stare at it once in a while for the sake of fond memories. I can rewatch all my memories AND keep my character up-to-date (or leave them if I desire it).

May sound harsh, but I’d rather time/energy be put to useful features and/or better content rather than niche stuff like this for a marginal percent of the playerbase, but that’s just me.

Thank you for the great Idea, Will capture some video before it is to late.

Memories are an individual thing, thus one should do it externally. I wouldn’t have played WoW as long as I have if I didn’t have fun creating all kinds of videos throughout the years. Since vanilla, people have contacted me in BFA all these years later and remark on old videos or moments they saw on YouTube and got in touch.

I’ve made PvP series on WCM with long-lost friends, random memories (server based or personal), machinima, all kinds of things. Whenever I end up chatting about the good old days, I don’t need to ā€˜remember’ stuff when I can just link videos that literally SHOW it. For example, I wasn’t recording when I first started raiding in Molten Core, but I absolutely can show you videos of vanilla Naxxramas on my 1024x768 20FPS potato that couldn’t even handle the game, nevermind recordings. Old friends, old content, how cringey I was as a keyturning clicker rogue back then… Crazy clips from pretty much any future expansions. All kinds of memories that I can watch whenever I want.

We’re in an age where everyone and their mother is a content creator. It’s very easy to get into, even if you just want to do it for personal enjoyment. It is a great way to extend your enjoyment of the game (and preserve your memories).

I recommend you grab ā€œStreamlabs OBSā€ - a free recording and streaming software that is perfectly capable of capturing high quality recordings with low impact on CPU. It may take you a while to get used to and set it up, but it’s a ā€˜once you’ve done it, it’s easy forever’ deal. You may even find yourself tempted to stream yourself or make regular content (beyond just memories).

Thank you for the advice. Will check Streamlabs out.

Another tip - if you’re of a screenshot persuasion - keep files on your computer. I had a collection of screenshots from the gates of Ahn’qiraj and all kinds of shenanigans in old BRD on Photobucket (which has since dumped everything). Sure, upload them to sites like IMGUR or somewhere to show them off, but don’t delete the originals if you actually want to keep them.

No problem! Didn’t mean to sound harsh but again, what you requested (preservation) has been within our power since the beginning.

Here’s an example.
You may see it as some bad-quality silly video with 1337 sp34k, but to me, that was teenage me making my first ever video and being a typical vanilla-WoW teenager in Naxx.

When asked for my previous raid experience here in the present when I joined a new guild, me saying I’ve been raiding since vanilla is all well and good, but I could actually show it. I’ve got videos from Vanilla, TBC, WotLK, MoP, WoD, Legion and BFA of all descriptions (PvE, PvP, random, derp, fun stuff, creative stuff, etc). Words are great, but videos are better.

Super awsome video and dont worry i dont wake up and wonder if something will offend me today haha. The memories from Naxx. My guild got to twins in AQ40 and we did a try or 2 in Naxx. I remember so well how we tried to kill the first thrash bat for hours since it regenerated the HP. So we gave up and went for the boss where the priests MC but we never killed him i belive. All of us were so tired of constant raiding and the old Guild fel apart. I belive our name was Irksome Invaders. We raided 3 days a week and if you missed more then 1 in a week you got kicked! Hard times back then haha.

Would love to see more videos from players here. Show us your memories from old times. Is it Vanilla, Outland or when was your first steps into WOW?

I found a old video a guildie did back in 2006. Must have been when Guild struggled hard to get new members before we died out but cool to see a draft/raw video for recruitment.
