Returning back to Demonology (played Rogue up to now) after a couple of months since I quit Demo when BFA released and I can’t help but think demo was more fun in legion and I miss Thal’Kiels Consumption
Thal’Kiel’s Consumption was the most fun and skillful ability in the game that blizzard created. It was easy to use but hard to master/hit hard with it.
Thal’Kiel’s Consumption required you to be very observant about the information around you. The ability drained 8% of the life from your demon servants and then damaged your target equal to the life it stole. You had to think about the time where you would have the most amount of demons without them vanishing; summon imps from Hand of Guldan, summon more demons from Dreadstalkers+ talent,Grimoire Felguard, Doomguard and make sure ALL demons had been empowered by Demonic Empowerment. Why? Because the ability granted your demons more haste, more damage and MOST importantly more health which meant Thal’Kiel stole more health=more damage.
This is the minimum you had to think about to be effective with the ability as you got rewarded heavily for being good at micro-managing. Thal’Kiel was much more skillful and fun than the iteration that we have currently in BFA.
I wish that Blizzard (please Ion) give us this ability back (hopefully very soon)
Thal’kiel was a good idea, but had a terrible design. We need hand of doom and demonwrath back. If you really want thalkiel back then I’d prefer if our resource was brought back to demonic fury. I couldn’t stand the fact it only delt damage depending on how many demons (imps) you had out. With demonic fury it would be alot easier and smoother not having to worry about anyone facing that would ruin your setup.
I’m strongly dissagree about thal’kiel… it would be just same crap as legion was. You would need
Summon the Most Healthy Demons - 2 dreadstalkers would give [Thal’Kiel’] more damage then 3 imps, and now we summon 3 imps not 4 like it was in legion . And again to do perfect max damage shot you will need to line down your summons, and prey that you will not be interrupted.
Thal’kiel is the pinnacle of bad spell design. YES it could do great damage, but think about the mechanics that behind that spell and efford thet requires to deal that sweet sweet damage. Least that we need is another gimmick spell that “unique”, but not really useful in current gameplay meta.
Demonic Consumption is nearly the same and have exactly the same problem.
You need like a 15 sec ramp up time and instead of ONE brutal shot, your Tyrant will cast several “smaller” instead.
1 cc or even dodging a lethal mechanic ruins your whole rota, putting you to the bottom of the dps chart
if your target dies or on low health, it was wasted
if the burstable target is not in a synergy of the other skills, it ruined your whole rota…
A good demolock in legion was a master of the boss mechanics instead of its own class. In bossfights you had to check your raid dps with your own cooldown.
"ok… I only cast a HoG this time, and delay dreadstalkers… so 8 seconds later I can start build up the TKC rota (5 shard, GoF, Infernal,DE, SB, SB, DS, DE, SB, SB, HoG, SB, HoG, DE TKC…) and it hopefully it will hit the target at the right time…
And the whole game is like a speedrunning now. 20 second delay on your rota is not affordable now.
in pvp it was a complete useless skill and spec. Since your only great damage source was the TKC, but who was idiot enough to let the warlock prepare for it? Oh wait… you just let him build up, aoe fear all the demons than interrupt the cast and laugh at the lock to humiliate it more.
The only reason people miss it, because it was a huge number?
Actually I prefer these dozens of wet noodle tickle where the enemy realise late that they are buried under the spagetti…
