I think protection paladins need a bit of a buff in Toghast. I get too many anima powers to choose from, that do not empower my DMG, nor my survivability. Most of the times i get powers like Soul-Touched Reins, Soul-Touched Spurs, Defiled Prayer Beads multiple times, which does not actually help with neither of the two aforementioned things. There are also other powers, that enpower Blessing of Sacrifice, which i find mostly useless as well, but that is just my opinion. I don’t know if im just unlucky, or there powers have a higher chance to pop up, but after the last nerfs to the paladin powers, i don’t think it is fair to have these “useless” (at least according to my experience) powers pop up so often. Sometimes it is even hard to finish the last boss of the layer due to the lack of damage.
Ironically most of my damage in torghast comes from non-paladin abilities. Arcane bolt, nature etc
I’ve solo’d every standard Torg and all layers of Twisting Corridors as Protection Paladin - and judging by the forums, there are a wealth of classes in a supposed worse spot than they are. At no point have I felt weak in Torghast as Prot - the only challenge being Layer 8 (Floor 14-18) - which was mostly power-based - yet I still managed it without optimal powers in the end.
There are plenty of valuable (common) powers - the only issue is that you almost always feel pigeonholed into the HoW build. Having said that, there are plenty of strong options to choose from.
Meanwhile, my Prot Warrior - which is also relatively solid - feels far less impactful by comparison, and my Resto Shaman (this character) almost always has to go Lava Burst build if they ever want to meet the needed damage for the higher end of Torg.
TLDR: I don’t think Prot Paladin needs a buff at all - but the powers themselves could do with a bit of review. I wager everyone would say that about every class.
Don’t know what to say , i found it a walk in the park to solo everything in there , did layer 8 twisted corridors w/o any problems , but then again i am ilvl 210(not much but not low)
210 isnt bad dont put your self down
I’ve gotten to layer 8 which I havn’t tried yet, my only failure so far was on layer 7 where I just didn’t get any health powers for all of the floors I did
Completed Layer 7 on 185 ilvl, gonna try Layer 8 on 188 ilvl, as long as I get my build I don’t expect any issues
All in all prot feels strong, esp. in Torghast.
I solo’d most of it but I’ve revisited lower layers to helped guildies and in general prot paladin makes it easier for other specs to focus more on damage builds simply because they have someone to hold threat, the 18 floors were suddenly done in just over an hour so that’s another tactic if you can’t do it Solo
I would still suggest doing Layer 8 as Ret (if solo). Completed this with both specs and as Ret it was much faster and smoother, especially the final boss if you keep that 1.5 Minutes Immunity Animapower for it. Depending on the Boss you get, you will end up kiting it for about 10 minutes as Prot at worst because dps is rather low for the lifepool they have (7 mio) and you still suffer from being onehit after some stacks, no matter if you have all possible defensive and life-increasing Animapowers or not. As Ret just pray for perma Wings which is just great with Sanctified Wrath talent.
Don’t underestimate Layer 8. 1-7 was really easy but on Layer 8 there is a big increase in damage taken. Felt like double difficulty compared to 7.
Torghast is easy as Prot Paladin very easy but doesnt have much to compare it to but so far Torghast has been a Breeze for me. Getting 3 extra chargies of Wrath and the power that boosts Wrath damage by 30% x 3 and its basiclly gg and if you get some extra damage increasing things its just extreme overkill.
I have absolutely no issues with solo-ing Torghast.
Exactly that, extra hammers, having using hammer increase wings, and getting all the hammer dmg, lower CD on Judgement, increase dmg when enemies die in Consecration, I mean, it’s awesome playing prot in Torghast.
Same here, in fact I can solo Torghast on level 8 as a DPS and a Tank.
I’d put a ‘Why can’t I hold all these GCDs’ meme here because every run I just end up spamming Judgement, HoW, AS and SoR. I wish there were more defensive powers but prot already has like 4 defensive cooldowns that are pretty broken in thorgast anyway.
I did it on Protection paladin with only 1 death on layer 8 boss and i only picked wings /hammer + random dmg green powers + crit % and life % so my dmg was giga and my life was over 200k
I was saying that torghast is not even close to hard it is only LONG and boring
and i think blizzard failed again but that’s just my humble opinion
@ OP prot paladins are really good in Trollghast, you just bum out of luck sometimes with the anime (see what i did there) powers sometimes. Ret Paladin in my guild can solo Layer 8, so it’s doable as prot too for sure.
You literally need to take all the anima powers that buff your wings/hammer and try to get haste. After that you will never die.
By some luck i got all the buffs i need for wings and i was just standing still on layer 8 floor 18th boss. Which was Observer Zelgar and it was said Aerial Strikes just one shot people. Well i had 370k hp and Aerial Strikes hit for 250k and i heal up to %100 in a gcd right away
Luck is a big factor on Torghast but you get epic wing powers at every 6 floors. So don’t feel down if you get some bad powers since you will have at least 90 powers at the end boss.
yes but i won’t advise it, takes way too long even with the best powers, because our dmg does not scale that well compared to the hp pools of mobs and bosses.
I usually do layer 8 about 10 to 50% faster than the DPS in my guild, not sure what you are doing but Prot Paladin is really safe and fast in Torghast.
You have to be a bit lucky with powers, I usually try to do everything. Did Coldheart last night, felt like there was no end to it, that place is HUGE .
I usually go for (if I get them) hammer dmg increase, extra hammer, lower judgment CD, hammer extending your avenging wrath using hammer, haste buff, there are tons of good ones.
And if you are Kyrian, for me that ability is my most fun to use in the game.
Here you are calling for buffs to prot and I can pretty much call it now, WOG will be nerfed for self healing and on others (due to pvp), to compensate they will buff defensives via some gimmick tie in with mastery or SoTR in pve for Paladin tank.
WoG was already nerfed in pvp a week ago or so, by 20%, and justifiably so.
