Some might have already suggested this but whatever.
Current war mode is not working, there are very few people because of how it’s activation/deactivation works.
I used to have war mode on all the time since it’s release but in Shadowlands I noticed that some classes just are way too broken in wpvp and without gear I have no chance against them. Also doing dailies and killing “rares” in war mode is just pure pain because of mob tagging (why there has to be mob tagging in war mode when there is none in normal mode? To cause more pvp? It just reduces the pvp because other faction will avoid tagged mobs in most cases… But if both factions can get the kill from attacking then it would mean that people land and attack the mob = higher chance for pvp. With tagged mobs they just fly to next rare or wait for respawn). Also for the argument of “people will abuse the system with enemy faction player killing mobs and abuser just getting the “tag” with 1 skill to get loot etc.”. Make contribution % for “tag” or if you don’t do enough damage to the mob, you will get just needed kill for q or quest item but no other loot unless you attack the mob first (which is almost same as non grouped allied player killing mobs you already tagged). Or just /care and let players play the game as they want and maybe focus on actual problems like bots and cheaters.
Anyway since now I have deactivated the war mode so I can do the dailies quickly and start enjoying the game after that horrible system. After dailies are done I have to go back in main city to activate the war mode again and that itself just feels like daily. If I need to do again something “pve” or I need some specific “rare” spawns, I have to again deactivate war mode first, except if it’s soloable… And then run back to main city to activate it… So I have not really activated war mode for a while and automatically turn it off on every new character that enters in shadowlands.
WHY?!? Why we need that? Why we can’t just activate and deactivate war mode where we stand? Because some people will abuse it?
Here is solutions:
#1 Put very obvious casting animation on war mode changing “skill” that clearly shows everyone near that this guy gonna wreck someone soon and put something like 15-30 sec casting time on it. Same with removing the war mode. Also not usable while in combat and dmg cancels the cast. So people can’t just pop it on and off to abuse things and situations.
#2 War mode players in same layer as Pve players? If not possible, then make it possible. It should not be too hard to make something that so many other MMOs already have (“outlaw” system but with togglable skill that marks you as pvp player and lets you attack all other players who are in same state. Heck this pretty much was something we had before war mode and some private servers have this already).
#3 Let pvp and pve players fight against same mobs together even when they are from different factions but pvp players (war mode on) can also attack each others. We don’t want “equal and fair” situations, if we go in war mode we want carnage and challenge. If enemy player attacks me when I am low HP fighting some elite mob and die because of that player then it is my own problem, I chose that risk.
In classic servers I’ve come up against so many other enemy faction player who have helped me to finish the mob and sheeped me/waited till I am full HP and then engaged in pvp combat, and that has been one of the best experiences in the game. I’ve met so many cool people because of pvp but all that is lost in retail WoW because of the poopy war mode that tries to “help” to have “fair” engagement against another player when the whole point is to have the challenge, risk and adrenaline that comes from the true world pvp.
Any thoughts? I’d like to know if you think this could work or would you change something? Or maybe you think current dead war mode is ok system for some reason and I’d like to know why.
