I concure. Same goes for healer roles. There is a shortage that makes Call to Arms activate, you queue but might have to wait even 30mins to get a grp going!
I have started to think the call to arms is nothing more than a time sink con. If I see the buff I will queue for a few minutes then just cancel it.
I was doing world quest on a dps last night, when a satchel popped for dpa. I stayed in the queue far longer than I usually would. After 15 minutes the satchel was taken away. For shame BliĀ£Ā£ard.
While this frustration is understandable, the limitation is almost certainly primarily a technical oneā¦
The instance Servers are not located on the realm servers, and the queues themselves are almost certainly also managed by a separate server, just as the login servers and the realm servers are completely different physical entities.
And to make the information from the queue sever be displayed in real time would require every realm server to query the queue server in real time, as well as every instance server feeding back that āWe need a tank /heal /DpS because ours leftāā¦
The combination of both would likely effectively result in an internal DDoS attack on the queue server due to the sheer number of instances being run at any given time during the day.
If you however reduce the query frequency to 1x /minute or every 2 minutes to the realm servers, or set it up as a 1x /minute broadcast from the queue servers (which I would assume is approximately how it is actually set up from monitoring the update rate of the LFG queue), you instantly reduce the amount of requests to a level the queue server can actually cope with even during peak hours.
This is of course speculation, as IĀ“m not deeply versed in BlizzardĀ“s specific infrastructure setup, but this is the gist of how I would set up a similar architecture, and that would be the obvious bottleneck.
Off the top of my head the only really plausible way to possibly improve overall performance would be to set up multiple queue servers, and have only certain realms and instance servers query each, while the queue servers then mirror their requests into a central queue manager, that then then combines the data and updates the total queue to each individual queue serverā¦ Possible, but an absolute nightmare to implement and maintain, for what I believe would likely only be a marginal overall improvement if at allā¦
IĀ“m not sure IĀ“m understanding you correctlyā¦
If you queue as a CtA role during the CtA timeframe, regardless of how long it actually takes you are always awarded the satchel upon completion, no matter what people queuing in later are rewarded with.
If you open the browser while queued, it may seem like the reward is removed while you were waiting, but that only applies to player queuing ānowā, not players that queued while CtA was still active and are currently waiting for an invite.
And yes, on your own invite when it pops, the satchel will not be displayed, only the base rewardsā¦ but you will still receive it upon completion.
5-man Heroics are a casualty of Delves, pretty much.
You donāt have to queue up for Delves, nobody will slag you off if you make a mistake or gasp pull more mobs than the pre-determined optimal route, you always get some loot (Not necessarily useful, but itās better than just a repair bill), and the vault slots go to higher itemlevels.
I havenāt done 5-man group content for all of the expansion (And only a few LfR-runs), for quests iāll do dungeons in follower-mode (Also no queue), and i get loot and crests from Delves and vault, itās great!
If you donāt queue in first minute or less after addon pops notification then you are in for a long one, simply because way too many tanks apply suddenly.
No you are not. I have complained about this many times now. The satchel is taken out of the window. I have seen this happen just waiting in a main city and doing absolutely jack. If you queue for a satchel then check again before accepting entry into the dungeon.
As for the rest giving bliĀ£Ā£ard excuses is just naĆÆve. If BliĀ£Ā£ard cannot manage a simply database, then how do they manage to create a complex MMO. Player queues add them to a list. It matters not a jot that the servers are managed by different machines. I am fairly confident in saying BliĀ£Ā£ard can manage client side and server side data requests.
I would not care if they decided to take the satchel away. Where I get annoyed is when I join a satchel run and have the reward removed without me noticing until the end. This happened many times in the past.
A quick google check will show you many posts stating exactly this. A link from 2016 here. It explains exactly the situation I am referring to. The length of time this has gone is indicative that it is deliberate.
Yes, you are, as even the very first response in the linked MMO champion thread states, If you requeue, you lose out, if you stay, you get it, period.
But of course IĀ“m just naive, not basing my statements on actual experience how the system has worked for well over 10 years or 30+ years of being a gamedev myself, so I obviously donĀ“t have the slightest idea what IĀ“m talking aboutā¦while you canĀ“t even stay respectful enough to write BlizzardĀ“s name properly but repeatedly make the extra effort of replacing the Zs with Ā£, and your lofty expectations of how IT infrastructure should work donĀ“t magically advance the obvious limitations of ethernet and CPU technology by 5-10 years.
So one of us has an obvious agenda, and the other has a clue. Onlookers can decide which is which, iĀ“m not going to waste time discussing on the level youĀ“re inevitably going to attempt to drag this down to.
even in off peak times i am getting heroic queues popping up for me in 3-4 mins at most .so not sure why as a tank they are not popping up for u .
/facepalm. I must be telling lies then.
Or just made a mistake?
Iāve had it happen as well
Bag gone from queue frames.
Pop into du geon. Collect bag still move on.
