Please Explain Heroic Dungeon Queue Times

Right now I am queueing as a tank for a Heroic Dungeon because Call To Arms for my role is active. This means that there is currently a tank shortage, right? Could you explain to me how it is possible that I have been sitting in a queue for 30 minutes? This keeps happening regularly by the way. Thanks!

Easy:
You can do delves for 603-610 ilvl pretty easily as soon as you reach lvl 80. Also you can buy with delve currency 580ilvl items for your alts.

In this environment, who will go do heroics for a chance at a random item that they can buy from delves?

Hold up I didn’t know you could buy this gear. I have just levelled a tank alt. I’ll be buying that tomorrow xD

Guess most people are busy queuing for time walk or chromie or world bosses or raid finder or mythic etc etc

Heroics being 100% redunant by the time you can even do them if one of Blizzards biggest screw ups in TWW.
(Same goes for Normals but they’ve been semi-redundant for over a decade now anyway, especially the max level ones.)

Given that Heroic Dungeon-farm have more often than not been my go-to for enjoyable content over the last 20 years, their current state makes me kinda sad…

Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve even played all the new dungeons introduced in TWW with actual players yet, and it’s been over 2 months.
There’s just no reason for me to do it. When the heck did this happen??

While Unusual, that can happen, because tanks are not the only role that´s hard to fill, so it´s entirely possible the healers were also being given baggies.

And as long as no healers sign up, the queue just gets longer and longer. I personally wouldn´t do it for the runes, I can get those as well as a comparable amout of gold just fine from patron orders. So it´s not only delves that you’re competing with, it´s literally anything that isn´t a toxic waste of someone’s time that can earn 5000g in 10 minutes or less… :wink:

To be clear, it is by design.
It is the result of having multiple gearing paths, the one with the less hurdles becomes the default.

For heroics you are dependent in other random players that are chosen randomly by blizzard.

On the other hand u can do way harder content, that u can do solo or with ppl you chose, that rewards way better gear.

So yes, ofc heroics become redundant in a world with better alternatives.

Competition with time walking dungeons I think + no tww week during anniversary…

Because nobody is playing the game anymore, and if they do they are not doing heroics for bad gear

Yesterday there was a bonus for DPS, it was the first time I’ve seen it and I think it’s been a thing since legion. The Q time was short though, about 6 minutes. I’ve had times when queuing as healer (when there was a healer shortage) when there also was a long queue time but that was in the morning, there’s not that much activity in the morning.

most people do delves although most people hate doing it .but it gets you the gear you need quickly .

Yeah, not really sure what the point of them is really.
For leveling, doing quests, seeing the content / lore we have either Normal or Follwer versions.
For those wanting a challenge or gear you have Mythic (Standard and Plus).

Heroics are neither fish nor fowl in this situation.
Although I do see a potential for having a Heroic Plus type gameplay. Tanking and Healing would be much easier (so much so that even Follower AI tanks and healers could be used as an option) and the focus would be on Interupting attacks aimed at DPS who get stunned and damage reductions if they fail.

If you’re oldschool they changed what the difficulties mean
it used to be like this:
normal dungeons were both leveling and max level entry dungeons
heroic was always max level only and increased difficulty from entry.

nowadays its as follows:
normal dungeons are for leveling
heroic dungeons are for entry max level
m0 is what heroic used to be

the only thing that has really changed is terminology.

Because Call to Arms doesn’t work in real time, but on what was the average need some time ago (I don’t know how long ago, could be mere minutes, could be hours). If there are 50 groups ready to enter a dungeon and all 50 wait for a tank, and then 100 tanks queue at the same time, all 100 tanks will get Call To Arms bonus, but 50 of them will actually have to wait for more groups to start filling up.

The idea of Call to Arms not working in real time sounds so incredibly stupid, so that’s probably it. It sounds like something Blizzard would do and it would also explain why I’m currently in a queue as a healer for 25 minutes.

There is an addon which informs player when call to arms appears and then suddenly there is no tank shortages :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, great. I have never paid much attention to Call to Arms. I didn’t even know what would be in the bonus loot bag. Again I am sitting in a queue as a tank for 33 minutes. I guess I’m done with this amazing system.

There’s just no point to running heroics. After blizzard raised the required I’ll, you can as well just run m0 s instead of heroics. Or do delves. I saw that dps call to arms as well, there probably aren’t a lot of people left running heroics
