Please fix the Archivist Codex reputation grind

After the one-off quests, your main way of gaining reputation is farming rares, treasures, lucky daily quest rewards, and purple mobs. General chat has already started complaining about the pitiful daily rep gains once you’re past the one-off quests. This is not an new issue and was reported on the PTR forums.

This post is to highlight some of the problems, and to draw attention to the fact that this is only going to get worse

  1. The rares spawn time is very long (e.g. Camping the teleporter spawns is not fun, nor is hoping to get a towering exterminator on your shard).
  2. Treasures literally despawn in your face because someone looted it 10seconds before you.
  3. The daily rewards in keepers spite are character specific (e.g. I’ve had 100 rep rewards with the archivist codex while on other chars the same daily gave me anima - this is not class specific as I checked this with my guild). Nobody wants this type of randomness in a reputation grind!
  4. The reputation gain from killing a rare is random. If you are lucky, you can get a 150 rep token (300 research) if you are unlucky, you can get 10 reputation. Again, nobody wants this type of randomness in a reputation grind.
  5. The cataloged research is still capped (12K) - people will start hitting cap in the next couple of days in EU and probably today on NA. This is terrible because there is nothing useful to spend the research on, and you will have to spend it in order to turn in your research to the vendor (you get an error message when you try to turn the items in).
  6. Even if you farm all the rares and treasures, your reputation gains are pitiful when compared to more recent reputations like Venari (which people already hated). People will think I’m wrong/clueless because they’ve just received huge gains from the one-time quest items but they are in for a rude awakening when they see the reputation requirements for tier 5 and 6 (I’m nearly tier 4 on EU on live for reference).

How should this be fixed?

  1. Remove the cap on cataloged research
  2. Allow players to buy sockets/conduits at the lower tier. Acquisition rate is still gradual this way because you need the cataloged research to buy them (e.g. see Blizz’s own Venari improvements in 9.1!!)
  3. Increase treasure respawn rates to avoid the incredibly annoying feeling of having them despawn in front of your face.
  4. Increase rare respawn rates to avoid camping multiple hours for 500 daily reputation gain…
  5. Add more dailies or a weekly quest that gives a large chunk of reputation with the archivist codex.
  6. Remove randomness from reputation grinds. It’s not fun to have a daily give reputation on some characters while not on others.
  7. Add back the ‘Research report: Careful examinations’ to the vendor, which increased reputation gains by 100% at tier 4 onwards. This used to be present on the PTR but was removed on live.
  8. Make Human reputation work on this reputation, so that alliance is once again the superior faction :wink:

You don’t want to make the players hate your new zone just because of the reward structure you’ve put in place.

Agree with everything said here. This faction feels like a slog that doesn’t respect player time with all the “random” waiting that needs to be done to progress at any kind of pace after the 1-time turnins.

Has to be the worst reputation grind in recent history, maybe even further.

Getting 0 rep from dailies has to be the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever seen, and then even when you do get rep from rares you can get 10 or 150. Mind blowing just how stupid this is.

I’m really suprised they don’t have any form of dailies or even a “big weekly quest”.

The way the rep works atm seems very much like “trickle rep” that is used alongside something that is more consistent, but it doesn’t really work when that is all there is honestly.

TBh what they should have done is that each of the relic you find and bring back unlocks an associated daily, and each tier beyond 1 unlocks a “daily slot” ie:

At rank 2 - You have one daily quest randomly choosen from your relics
Rank 3 - Two daily quests
Rank 4 - Three…etc.

That would make sense, as in the more “One time” you do, the more options you get for additional sources of consistent rep.

Now i’ve exhausted most of the one-time quests (I have a couple of chests to loot) yeah the rep seems very scarce. Being active in the zone 100% of the time as the only way to get rep (as opposed to dailies which net you a daily sum for a bit of activity) seems off to me, it’s like if i’m doing anything else, i’m saying to myself “I could be in Korthia grinding chests for rep” because that is the only way i’m going to be getting that rep. If I don’t make that time, I won’t get it!!

They really need to add at least a weekly quest or something rather than have the entirety of the rep obtainable from the zone require consistent activity therein.

Completely agree!

Even a stuck clock is right twice a day. Blizzard can’t even manage that. Every decision they make is laughable, everything they do is just two fingers up at the player base. I can only hope this is intentional and is a managed decline as no can be truly this out of touch, can they?

I also have the feeling we are soft locked, the closer i get to Tier 4 the fewer rep I get from anything, Basically you are being punished for putting time into it. Bad game design. Where is the fun in the game now? Damn let me be a decision maker at blizzard and il fix the game for you, i feel like our subscription money isnt going to development but shareholders at this point. might be nice to have theis confirmed :slight_smile:

I’ve said this in a couple of discussions now but the first day felt great, got to tier 3, and as the rift keys are gated behind tier 4 I thought it can’t be that bad, did three levels the four wont take long surely. How wrong I was. We now get tier/rep at a snail’s pace and it feels very unrewarding to go to Korthia.

The rares are few and far between and incredibly hard to get to unless you play afk camping mode. The treasures have the most infuriating 10 second despawn mechanic. This encourages the worst behaviour in players.

I see you have a bunch of mobs fighting you, would be a shame if someone looted that treasure right next to you.

Druid/Rogue stealths in, loots chest, stealths and wanders off again.

Night Elves rush in with pack of mobs, shadowmeld, drop all aggro and loot chest. If you are unfortunate enough to be trying at the same time they are now your mobs.

Not being able to loot treasures in combat is the most infuriating part of it and I have no clue why they made it a thing. You always used to be able to cc/knockback mobs and open a chest. Why change it.

You are basically punished for getting to a treasure first because whoever gets there second will just yoink it while you are killing some sh*tty mob.

Completely agree. This is either done by design choice or it’s not intended.

I would not like to assume either way but it’s currently very unrewarding to enter Korthia at the moment besides an abundance of herbs scattered about.

Should of heard my mate on Skype. The world was ending, my ears and soul melting and I didn’t blame him, I suffered the same way at times.

Very odd behaviour them chests. I’m lucky I got my item begins quest for those chits from the first chest. So I could complete that quest that day.
I imagine it would be more stressing getting the item begins quest from the chest towards the end of looting all the chests (which is what happened to my mate) in Korthia for the day. Since you need 20/20 chits from chests. Then on top of that, the chests disappearing upon him getting to them! Ooo did I hear rage.

He would rage about falling off a tree tons of times, pulling mobs, others beating him to it, then get to the chest and it disappears. The rage!

No. I wait for you to be there. Then i shadowstep you. So i atleast share with the first guy that reaches it.

Also while we are it: GIVE THE CONSUMPTION RARE A DMG TAKEN IMMUNITY UNTIL IT TRANSFORMS. People are really getting my blood to boil at this rare. One would think it would be enough to type stop dps and reset but noooooooooooooooooooooo

No one reads anything dude for PvE stuff, it has being that way since forever. Blizz designs makes player comprehensive turn into :poop:

At this point i just want an item that lets you kill your own faction so i can spawn camp these people in particular.

We actually did have that in 8.3, but was only for WM…

I have the N’Zoth item. I want it to work again. And for all i care make it work in wm off at the consumption area if said mob has been killed as a non rare. Or give anyone that kills it while its a non a rare a debuff that makes you hostile to everyone for 10minutes. Maybe then people learn.

lolol While doing that awesome Daily quest today “Gold’s no Object” I watched it being pulled and killed 3 times and on all occasions me and others were telling them stop, 40 stacks itll come out on its own.
But noooo, they knew better. Then they turn round and say “Oh, that’s a pretty crummy reward for a rare isn’t it”
