It’s easily the most distinguishable features of the High Elves. They’re famous for their rangers. Many of their notable heroes have tattoos. The first elven units (Warcraft II) had them.
I know this is just another request on top of a pile of requests, many of which have already been granted. But tattoos are really important to complete the picture.
This is very important. They usually give us the SAME things and sometimes it bothers the red side.
Perfect way to fix this is to keep colors locked for each race.
Void elf: Blue (like Alleria’s) and Purple
Blood elf: Red, Green, and Yellow
Would look amazing. But I doubt it will happen they have plenty of other races to focus on. And I would rather see them add something unique to Blood elves that void elves won’t get. As this will make them feel more unique like they wanted. Like:
I’d add black to the blood elf colour list, it’s a big part of their colour scheme especially the blood knights, and it was one of the two main colours they used for their body paintings in the RPG.
Not really. I think it is more that more and more, the Blood Elf unique stuff is being eroded, and the crucial problem is, that nothing is being given in return. They already got a pretty pathetic roll out of customisation options. I think it annoys because it is like “So…where’s our Cool blood Elf stuff then?” in this mad dash to make Void elves into High Elves.
People said “We just want the hair colours, and that’s it”
Except it isn’t is it?
Now it’s tattoos (So a Blood Elf thing which Blood Elves don’t get!) Highlights (Which Blood Elves don’t get) and -more hairstyles-?
Where does this line stop? Because it has exceeded what people said was “All we want is…” twice now, and now more is being requested?
Where does the line get drawn?
They need to provide the number of customisations promised to Blood Elves before they spend a single further second on Void/High Elves.
Because where does the line get moved to next time?
This kind of nonsense comes from the same dark and jealous place as the “gay marriage violates the sanctity of marriage” philosophy.
I’m not saying they’re the same, but it’s just one of the many ugly things about people, that we can’t simply let others enjoy nice things. We need to invent reasons to explain our own jealousy, and prevent others from being happy. I’m not saying you’re like that or singling you out, just speaking broadly.
Let Void Elves have everything they ask for.
Let Blood Elves have everything they ask for.
Let Trolls have beards.
You do have a point there. We got plenty and plenty of customizations right now with the new options, which i am very very satisfied with. they should start focusing on other races now. Tattoos is not that important and its not the end of the world if we dont get it right now. After all, Alleria is the only NPC seen wearing it anyway.
its not a Blood elf thing. Its a Thalassian thing, which no Thalassians started to wear after Arthas invaded Quel’thalas. Only Alleria does, but she was lost since Warcraft 2.
No blood elf NPC is seen wearing, no void elf NPC, no High elf NPC. just Alleria.
“oh but Rommath!”
Rommath has runic/magister tattoos my friend, not Farstrider tattoos.
Cool. I have always said this, until the current situation which is a bit skewed.
Well, I mean… That would be nice if they had. They seem to be in no hurry to listen to requests from 15 years back though, so the likelihood of them starting now seems low. Actually no, they did get blue eyes and tiny beards. They do now also have the least unique customisations of any major race.
I see the analogy you were going for but it is more like “Oh, gay people can get married, fine…hey waitaminute, with these recent changes now, gay married couples have more rights than straight couples? Surely that’s wrong? Can we have some straight couples things to balance it out please?”
Void Elves are yoinking a lot of stuff, leaving the Blood Elves less and less like a race with their own features. So it isn’t people getting annoyed with Void Elf customisation, it is people getting annoyed with the lack of Blood Elf customisation, which is only exacerbated, almost as if by calculated intent, when Blizzard continue to heap customisation on Void Elves, when they still did not provide what was promised to Blood Elves back when everyone ‘supposedly’ got their customisations. It’s basically adding insult to injury.
Oh my Gods Yes. Forsaken too, I reckon…
I was hoping someone would notice that. See how weird it sounds? Now you know how I felt when I had to hammer home that argument each time people were saying Void Elves and High Elves should have warpaint and tattoos because they are a ‘High Elf thing because Alleria’.
Truth is, you’re spot on. As I always pointed out, first time we see Warpaint on Elves is Elven Rangers in WC2. Then We see Rommath with his runic tats on his arm, and on the TBC Box Set we see Kael’thas with his facial runic tats, then we see Alleria, who left Azeroth before there even -was- a Blood/High Elf divide.
So what we can reasonably extrapolate is that rangers go in for warpaint, and magisters for tattoos (Somehow this pleases me in terms of how I see the two ‘castes’ working)
Essentially 90% of the people who wore warpaint and had tattoos were killed during the Scourge invasion. Of the survivors, 90% are Blood Elves.
So far, so good. Surely, Warpaint and Tats for all Thalassian Elves would make sense, right? But we know that won’t happen, don’t we.
Not when the US forums and to a drastically lesser extent the EU ones are full of people who think Alleria’s look is a High Elf thing, and Blood Elves should not have it. (Basically people who know Jack All about the lore) then you can see why you get the pre-emptive arguments in first. Either Blood Elves and Void Elves get the options at the same time, or they have to give Blood Elves it first, and later roll it out to Void Elves, because you just know that if it works the other way around and the Legolas element of the Void Elf playerbase get their tattoos and warpaints first, they absolutely will fall silent about the Blood Elves getting them too. Blizz will then follow their usual ‘path of least resistance’ method, not bother, and Blood elven fans will be left speechless in stunned amazement that all of the things they said would happen as worst case and ‘Only an idiot would think that’ had suddenly happened.
It would have to be simultaneous roll out.
Err…There were no Blood elves in WC2…but if it helps 90% of those Elves with face paint are dead, and of the survivors 90% of them are now Blood Elves, so yes, you have seen characters (Or depictions thereof) of Blood Elves with facepaint, in WC2, they just didn’t call themselves Blood Elves till the end of WC3.
Never bothered me in the slightest, as I said before they even got the hair colours, before they got the skin colours even.
Does bother me when the requests start to turn into ‘Gimme More’ “Wait, now, surely someone else deserves some attention?” “No, Gimme More, Gimme more, Gimme more!”
So again, where is the line? When will Void Elves wanting to be High Elves think that sufficient has been done, and will stop asking for things, and let other races get a look in?
There was a joking ‘Sliding Scale’ a few referred to about Void/High Elf requests ranging from
“Yeah, sounds reasonable” (Stuff like Skin colour, hair colour, styles)
Up to ‘Selfish’ (Stuff like Warpaint just for them because ‘Alleria’, and Blizz sneaking two Allied Races into the Alliance for the price of one),
It then went up to ‘Absolutely stupid’ (Giving Void Elves paladins, so that High Elves could play the oh so iconic Paladins the High Elves were so famed for/ s Changing the name so that it no longer says ‘Void Elf’ when moused over, but ‘High Elf’, bizarre case of one twin strangling another twin in the womb there…)
It then went into 'Absolutely Selfish, or Moronic (I can’t remember whether we decided that Selfish Moronic was a D&D style alignment ) which culminated with the Void/High Elves getting Silvermoon and Quel’thalas (Because the Void told Alleria she should have it) and the Blood Elves are exiled to Suramar)
At every stage however, Void/High Elf fans have said “No, that’s it, we’re content with this” only to turn around and go "Actually No, we also want this " Blood Elf fans are like “Right, look, can we wait until they finish giving us -our- customisations first?” “Nope, we need this to look like High Elves”
We’ve reached borderline between “Sounds reasonable, yeah” and “Selfish” now. If Both races do get the Warpaint and Tattoos, fine, if just Void/High Elves get them, and not Blood Elves, then that tips right into the ‘Selfish’ bracket where people playing the 10% are demanding more stuff than people playing the 90% of the Species.
If both get them: Cool. If Blizz continuing dishing stuff out to those who want to play High Elves like it was candy, then definitely very far from cool.
