Please, hear me out on Survival (slight rant)

Survival is a testiment to design failure on the mechanical, feel and customer trust level.

I will say that I play SV the most of any spec for the hunter, as I was never too happy with pets for main sources of damage, and I dislike MM since the WoD changes (too slow and immobile). However melee SV was bad in legion imho, but much better in BFA. Yet it could never replace what SV was pre-legion. Players used a rhetoric when it was changing, saying SV and MM are too similar, yet that was NEVER, i mean NEVER said before blizzard used that as a justification for removing a spec some hunter players only ever played. Go search forums pre-legion, you will never find any player saying that.

What I am baffled with now, is how reliant on a pet the hunter is, and how they only really have one melee ability (butchery aside). So what was the point of gutting a whole ranged spec to offer ONE melee ability and call it melee? Our reliance on a pet is higher than BM, but we are meant to be the melee spec…

When are people going to realise that if you simply swap mongoose strike to mongoose shot and change KC generator to cobra shot we are ranged again, as even our slow is ranged now. I find myself in pvp kiting more than anything, so what is the point of being melee. Even against casters, the only reason i get in close is for interrupting, as mongoose bite does naff all right now.

The only reason CA rushes us to the target is to keep up the farse of being ‘melee’, blizzard. Why would I need to rush into a target to throw bombs in his face if I just spent the last 10 seconds trying to get away from the idiot… Peak class design blizz, peak…

I am not even going to delve deep into the stupidity of making our pet be the source of activating all our burst, generating our resources, being the source of our main mechanic and partially being responsible for our survival utility. So blindingly dumb.

I cannot fathom how the player base can’t see that SV is an absolute fail, and how easy it is for them to fix by the next reset FGS.

  • Raptor/Mongoose changed to a shot
  • KC removed and replaced with Cobra or variant
  • CA and SH activate without pet, can remove the damage of CA too. Make CA add a free charge of Disengage.
  • Disengage has two charges for SV
  • Butchery changed to Sharpnel Shot - Fires a shot that explodes on impact and does butchery level damage.

Done, SV is now ranged, no drama. EZ as pie mate.

So cringe. Stop living in the past, mate.

All pet abilities should be made into Aspect abilities, invoking their power to stun, give freedom, sac etc.

And make the Aspects usable from both pet and master, so either of you can be in line of sight to use them.

And for god sakes, take Intim off GCD. Hunter is the worst pet class in the game.

some actual realistic changes to survival would be

  1. add a talent to make explosive shot single target, or only the one you get from grenade juggler
  2. add 8 yd range back or simply just increase the range of mongoose bite/raptor strike and muzzle if they don’t want to also increase the range of flanking strikes/auto attacks for some reason

now you’re kinda set for the new expansion moving forward, some other nice options that they’re realistically are never going to add would be

  1. add serpent sting back
  2. add the “wildfire bomb does more damage to the primary target” to every single spell in the game, feels so awful knowing that kill command/flanking/mongoose bite/serpent sting/explosive shot even to an extent have to do pretty mediocre damage simply because of the reason that there are talents you COULD pick that woudl make them aoe. this is the same design flaw to which why aspect of the cheetah is a 3 minute cooldown XD
  3. add spearhead charge back, or atleast let you pick if you want it to charge or not like how keefers used to work
  4. somehow make fury of the eagle a viable option in pvp by reworking ruthless marauder work like the season 3 tier-set

altho none of these changes will actually matter because we’re talking about the same company that gave the justification for hunter’s mark having a 20s cd in combat because “we don’t want to make hunter’s feel like they have to press hunter’s mark on every new mob they attack because that’d be annoying and also they might get flamed by their raid leader for not putting it up :frowning: so we’re deciding to just remove the option instead”
they didn’t think it’d be too strong, they didn’t think it would break the game or anything, they only did it cause god forbid their poor fragile hunter playerbase have to make a cohesive thought by themselves and figure out if pressing hunter’s mark here is worth or not

They were slowly changing stuff and adding good changes every week, all of a sudden all of it stopped. meanwhile mages get a new round of changes every week including a fan service to Arcane mage by adding a Bug back … they haven’t delivered what was promised for Hunters and Hero talents are horrible.

I really wish they would revisit us on a bigger scale for season 2.

Explosive shot needs an entire rework all together. Nothing is worse then having explosive shot either over ride itself from the proc after you applied it or having your biggest damage window come after the cooldown has expired from bombadier. Literally just make it the exact same as it was in Wotlk, with the added SOD flavour of doing aoe aswell. You can apply multiple ES’s to the same target and it does pulsating aoe dps out equivalent to the explosion we get now.

I mean it’s back in the form of viper’s venom

It doesn’t override anything, the old one Explodes after a new one is applied and there is a bug which makes the duration of it go to 6 seconds.

It is the weirdest way to apply Serpent Sting. it Costs 30 focus, requires you to be in Melee which is cancer now after the range nerf, it falls off really fast and the damage is lower than ever and not having it up also causes the damage to go lower.

As a class that kiting is core part of it the new Serpent Sting is a joke in PvP unless they buff the damage by 200%

Had to see this for myself and yep you’re right, thanks for that this is great news.

It is. It’s not the normal way that’s for sure but then again each time you Raptor/Mongoose you re-apply. With talents you can also spread and keep re-applying it to multiple targets, guess it’s a press it and forget it button now. They haven’t payed any attention to Serpent Sting since they removed the interaction with Chimera Shot. In terms of pvp it’s so insignificant dps I don’t really think it needs to be a priority at all. They’d need to buff the dmg by alot.
If they gave us a green bomb that could interact with serpent sting that could give us a splash poison bomb type affect, I’d be all for that.

i ment as a physical button to either

  1. keep someone in combat
  2. kill totems
  3. just do damage when kill command/bomb aren’t available

SV has a major problem in PvP imho, the only ability you want to use in melee is basically pointless, it does the least damage, its like you are being forced into melee against casters just because of muzzle, which is dumb. Everything we hit does more damage at range, so what is the point of melee. Our one melee attack does P poor damage.

I’ve been crying about these exact things since the changes were announced.
Spearhead also fails but goes on CD if your pet is CC’d, out of LoS, or out of range. Why can’t it work like Kill Command, which is also 50 yds?

Dont forget, if you’re unlucky enough to get a Sic 'Em proc, you can’t even use Kill Shot if someone is in CC.

I’ve never ever, even in Mythic raids heard anyone ever mention the words “Hunter’s Mark” in any way shape or form. And seems like I’m not the first. It gives u, what 1-3 seconds less combat time?

Just give us Aspect of the Fox back. The best and only raid utility we had at some point in WoD, and decidedly the best raid utility in the game.
